Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak Mission 16: Hiigara walkthrough. Destroy the emperor's flagship quickly with Method 2, focusing fire on key targets.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
Method 1: Marshal your fleet around the Mothership (MS). The first wave from below consists of ion cannons; set support frigates to guard the MS. Use reserves or spare time to deal with them. A larger personal fleet might include 1 cruiser, 4 destroyers, 2 missile destroyers, and many ion cannons. Concentrate fire on one or two enemy ships at a time.
  2. 2
A carrier will attack your resource units from above with bombers and corvettes. Use 10-15 assault frigates escorted by heavies to destroy or capture it with salvage corvettes.
  3. 3
Repair your ships and move the fleet to the rear. The second wave warps in, featuring ion cannons, 2 destroyers, and a cruiser. Concentrate fire to eliminate them.
  4. 4
The final wave comes from below, consisting of one cruiser and many ion cannons. Defeat them similarly. Fleet intel may announce another enemy fleet jumping in.
  5. 5
Captain Olson will arrive with Group Tor and Jessar, stating they have lost many ships and need help defeating the emperor's flagship. March your entire fleet to the flagship, advancing through destroyer and cruiser groups. Support Olson as he will die if not helped. Concentrate all firepower on the flagship to win.
  6. 6
Method 2 (Faster): Select your ion cannon squad (minimum 25, more is better) and move it to the far end of the map in front of the MS. Do not stop for the first wave. Send destroyers closely behind, with support frigates supporting the MS. Send fighters to the red dot behind the MS and launch heavies supported by repair corvettes above your MS, sending a small fleet of 5-10 assault frigates behind.
  7. 7
Turn the destroyers around to kill ships before the ion cannons get too far, then turn them towards the ion cannon squad. Use multibeam frigates and ion arrays to eliminate remaining ships, and send multibeam frigates to follow the skirmish squad.
  8. 8
Take out or capture the carrier above your MS. Use scouts to take out the Turanic commander ship and place the grav well behind and above where his ship was. Wait for the battle to unfold.
  9. 9
When fleet intel announces another fleet is coming, select the grav well and activate it to trap them. You can also bait them with scouts.
  10. 10
Your earlier squad may encounter 2 destroyers and a missile destroyer; you can choose to engage them or not.
  11. 11
Advance through an asteroid belt until 3 heavy cruisers supported by 3 support frigates each appear. Attack them from the front with destroyers and flank with other ships. You will lose some ships but will win.
  12. 12
Move to the enemy MS and attack it with all ships. Kami fighters are a minor threat. Destroy the enemy MS, then optionally mop up surrounding ships. Nuke the emperor to win before Captain Olson jumps in and the second fleet arrives. This method can achieve victory in 30 minutes without Olson's help.
  13. 13
Carriers filled with bombers can speed up the destruction of cruisers.
Tips
  • The front strike craft wings follow the lead of your fleet. Positioning a scout 15km in front of the MS and leading it left or right will cause the frontal wings to follow, though assault frigates, defenders, and destroyers will not.
  • You can salvage everything or focus on the Kami collector on the asteroid.
  • The primary objective is to destroy the emperor's flagship, not necessarily all enemy forces.
  • If you jump in with a max fleet (hundreds of captured ships), the mission is shockingly easy.
  • When Karan is gone, you miss specific voice lines related to combat stations, probes, surveillance data, research completion, captured ships, launching, group victories/losses, and canceled orders.
  • The mothership's guns, production, and bridge (fleet intel and control station) still function.
  • Method 2 allows for a 15-minute breathing period to deal with the carrier.
  • The grav well can trap incoming enemy fleets.
  • Note: Hyperspace-using enemy ships are not affected by grav wells and can jump in and out normally.
