Complete walkthrough for Part 16 of Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak, covering mission objectives, strategies for Mission 4 and Mission 5, and tips for fleet management.
Walkthrough
- 1Mission 4:
- Objectives: Harvest, Protect Fleet, Destroy the Enemy Carrier before It Leaves.
- 2Secondary Objective: Build and Position a Resource Controller.
- 3Strategy: Harvest resources to build a powerful fleet. For fleet composition, consider options like 20 salvage corvettes and 25 heavy corvettes, or 50 scouts, a support frigate, and 2 assault frigates. Use scouts to lure ion array frigates, then use salvage corvettes to capture them. Use captured frigates to attack the enemy carrier. If using scouts, concentrate firepower on ion array frigates and attack from behind. Repair your MS and focus fire on the carrier, especially its rear, to prevent its escape.
- 4Mission 5: The Great Washes
- Objectives: Investigate at the Asteroid Belt, Destroy all Enemy Vessels.
- 5Secondary Objective: Destroy Enemy Resource Collectors.
- 6Strategy: Upon entering the sector, position salvage corvettes near the dust clouds. Send a probe into the middle of the belt to trigger an engagement. Lose the probe to avoid being followed. Use your heavy corvette wall to destroy incoming fighter wings. Capture enemy resource collectors with your positioned salvage corvettes. Use assault frigates to distract enemy fighters while you capture their resource collectors. Capture up to 9 assault frigates using salvage corvettes and support frigates. Investigate the red dots on the screen.
Tips
- You will receive one less assault frigate than you captured due to reverse engineering.
- Consider reserving ships in the build menu even if you lack the resources (RU).
- Cryo trays can be repaired by holding Z and double-clicking, but repair rate may not match damage rate.
- Be aware of a minor bug where saving all 6 cryo trays might only credit 5.
- The game may incorrectly refer to the Kushan fleet as Taiidan in certain dialogue.
- Keep building support frigates as they are important later and difficult to steal.
