Navigate Part 37 of Half-Life: Opposing Force, including dealing with tentacles, land mines, and acquiring the RPG.
Walkthrough
- 1Equip the crowbar and swing at the top of a sand pile as it rises to kill the crab before it attacks.
- 2To get ammo near the tentacle, make noise in one spot to draw its attack, then crouch-walk behind it. Quicksave, grab the ammo, and run to safety. Repeat until all ammo is collected.
- 3To reach the fourth outdoor area, go right from the entrance, through a sandy slope and a dark rocky passage. This area has land mines but no enemies.
- 4From the sign, turn left to the end of the raised sandy ledge, turn right, and go forward to the cactus.
- 5Past the cactus is a military supply area. Shoot the ground to the right of the netting with the assault rifle to detonate a land mine, then go under the netting to find supplies (if you haven't returned to section c2a5w after entering this section).
- 6Past the netting, crouch-walk between two large rocks and climb onto raised ground.
- 7Go to the open storm drain surrounded by barbed wire fencing. Get onto the raised ground next to the back of the fence to jump over and land on the back of the open hatch.
- 8Climb down the ladder in the shaft without falling. At the bottom, break through a grating and move down the tunnel to reach section c2a5a.
Section c2a5a: CLIFFSIDE MANEUVERINGS AND THE RPG
- As you near the end of the tunnel, equip the pistol, move slowly, and look right.
- A marine and a turret are on cliffside paths to the right. Get into a position to see the marine below and kill him with the pistol.
- Equip the crossbow, enter zoom mode, strafe to see the turret, and shoot it down.
- If the marine runs out of sight, take down the turret, then sneak-shoot the marine with the .357, and finish him with the pistol on the other side of the ledge.
- Get the pistol out again and drop to the ledge below the pipe. Turn left, walk to the edge, and sneak-shoot the marine on the ledge below.
- Carefully drop to a small intermediate ledge, then to the marine's ledge. Take his gun.
- Drop to the next ledge, entering a small cave by running over a rock. Find two health packs and a bullet clip inside.
- Crouch-jump back over the rock on its left side, turn left, and drop to two small ledges.
- Quicksave before dropping onto a very narrow ledge. Strafe right immediately after landing, or crouch-jump to avoid the narrowest part.
- Crouch-walk to find an armor battery, then a wooden bridge. Crouch-walk along one of the bridge's sturdy cables.
- After passing the previously shot marine and turning a corner, use the flashlight to see the feet of another marine behind a large metal structure connecting pipes. Sneak-shoot him with the pistol.
- Follow the ledge past him to another corner.
- Just past the corner is a supply cave with a marine near the entrance. Crouch-walk to shoot him in the foot with the .357, then finish him with another shot when he charges.
- Go to the back of the supply cave and pick up the RPG and loose rockets. The Apache chopper will appear outside.
- To destroy the chopper, it takes two RPG rockets (or one, according to SRC). Aim for the chopper as it flies right-to-left in front of the cave mouth.
- After the first rocket, retreat to the back of the cave. If two rockets don't destroy it, switch to the assault rifle.
- Search the supply cave for more supplies.
- Start along the cliffside path past the cave.
- When you reach a ladder, crouch-walk to its front and climb to the top.
- Crouch-walk up a ramp and hop up stepping stone ledges to reach the bottom of another ladder.
Tips
- To deal with the tentacle, use noise to lure it away from the ammo.
- When navigating the minefield, be aware of your surroundings and use cover (press the cover button to crouch behind walls or objects).
- For the cliffside enemies, utilize zoom mode with the crossbow for precise shots.
- The Apache chopper can be tricked into damaging itself with its own missiles, though this is difficult and varies by game version.
- If you don't get the supplies from the netting area, they will disappear if you return to section c2a5w.
