Learn how to tame pets in Grounded! This guide covers building pet houses, crafting slurries, and finding your perfect critter companion. Get your pets settled in no time!

Alright, so you wanna get yourself some trusty critter companions in Grounded? It's totally doable, and honestly, pretty cool once you get the hang of it. As of the latest update, you can tame three types of pets: Gnats, Aphids, and Weevils. To get them to join your crew, you'll need to do two main things: build a cozy Pet House for them and then actually feed them to earn their loyalty.

First up, let's talk about that Pet House. It's not something you can just whip up right away. You'll need to have tackled the Haze Lab and grabbed that Haze Lab BURGL Chip. Once that's done, head over to a computer terminal – you know, the ones in the Oak Lab or any Field Station. You'll need to buy the 'Advanced Production: Buildings' research for 2500 Raw Science. After that's unlocked, you can start crafting Mushroom Bricks, which are essential for the Pet House, and also Mushroom Slurry, which happens to be what Weevils love to eat.

To actually build the Pet House, you'll need these supplies:

  • 2x Wood Stems
  • 1x Acorn Shell
  • 4x Mushroom Brick
  • 2x Crow Feathers

Now that your Pet House is ready, it's time to get cooking… well, slurries, anyway! These are basically special pet foods that make your chosen critter more likely to become your loyal buddy. Each pet has its own favorite, so make sure you're offering the right stuff:

  • Aphids go crazy for Plant Slurry.
  • Gnats love Spoiled Meat Slurry.
  • Weevils are big fans of Mushroom Slurry.

To whip up these slurries, you'll need to build a Grinder at your base. Each recipe needs one plant fiber, mushroom, or spoiled meat. For the Mushroom Slurry, you can craft it at x6 and x10 rates, but you'll need a Toadstool Chunk or Mushroom Chunk for those.

Got your food ready? Awesome! Now, head out into the Grasslands – that's your best bet for finding Weevils or Aphids. If you're on the hunt for a Gnat, try looking around the light source just south of the Oak Tree; they tend to hang out there. When you spot your potential new pal, drop some of their favorite food nearby. Just pop it into your hot bar and hit the drop button. If there are a few critters around, they'll all notice and start munching. Keep an eye out for a little love heart symbol that pops up above a critter when you're close enough – that's your sign one is getting tamed!

Once you see that love heart, it's time to head back to your base and interact with your Pet House. You'll see a prompt at the bottom of your screen saying 'pet detected.' Hit the button, and watch as your new friend makes its way over to the Pet House to settle in. Don't worry too much about tricky paths; they're pretty good at finding their way home, even if your base is a bit of a maze.

After your pet has moved into its new home, you can manage it through the Pet House interface. You can check its inventory, give it a cool new name, and even deck it out with some gear!

Speaking of gear, there are currently four items you can craft to kit out your pets. These are:

  • Lil Goggles

The helms require parts from fire ants and Mite Fuzz. You can get Mite Fuzz by taking down Lawn Mites. For the ant heads, you'll need to hunt down the specific ant: Red Ants are chilling in the Grasslands near the Red Anthill, Black Ants are in the Sandbox/Trash Heap near the Black Anthill, and Fire Ants are found near the Lawnmower Anthill in the Upper Grasslands. The Googles, however, are a bit simpler, only needing Grub Hide, which you can get by digging up Grubs near the Oak Tree with a shovel. Keep in mind, each tier of helmet you craft gives your pet +2 defense and a 25% resistance boost.
