Strategy: Head right, defeat Liu Bei, then sweep clockwise around the castle. This stage is easy with no complex strategy required.

Strategy: The bulk of your troops will head left to face Zhou Yu. Join them in the hills to protect allies from fire archers. After defeating Zhou Yu, face Sima Yi, who throws faster boulders from above; be cautious as Meng Huo is slow. After Sima Yi, head inside the castle. An ambush troop led by Lu Bu will appear as you approach Zhuge Liang. Defeating Lu Bu will cause Zhuge Liang to fall easily.

Strategy: Eliminate the nearest enemy general based on your starting position. Cao Cao is on the middle path above Fan Shui Gate. If Guan Yu is alive, he will defeat Hua Xiong without a fight. Make your way around the map defeating enemies. Yuan Shao is at the top with archers and Wen Chou. Liu Bei and his brothers, along with Gongsun Zan, are on the east side and can gang up on you; defeating Liu Bei causes Guan Yu and Zhang Fei to retreat. Sun Jian is at the bottom near Dong Zhuo's camp and can be saved for last. The stage is generally not too tough; fight through the various foes.

Strategy: Make your way to the bottom of the map, fighting enemies along the way. Encounter Diao Chan; defeating her angers Lu Bu, who will pursue you. An ambush group will appear in the northeast heading for Yuan Shao. Defeating Lu Bu boosts morale and initiates a counterattack by Cao Cao, which angers Yuan Shao. Once these events occur, proceed to Dong Zhuo's base.

Strategy: Meng Huo's forces will collide with Dong Zhuo's. Deal with Diao Chan first. Head to Hu Lao Gate and defeat Li Ru to enter. Inside, face Diao Chan, who is protected by archers. Defeat the 3 gate captains to reduce enemy reinforcements. Defeating Diao Chan angers Lu Bu, increasing his morale. You can either avoid Lu Bu or fight him. Then, meet up with Meng Huo and defeat Dong Zhuo.

Strategy: Liu Biao is now allied with Sun Jian. This is a simple stage. After initial rockslides, go out the right side of the castle, follow the path to Liu Biao, and defeat him. Continue on the path.
