Part 4

Learn how to team up, use Diddy's jetpack and peanut popguns, and ride Rambi in Donkey Kong Country. Discover all item types, including bananas, coins, puzzle pieces, and KONG letters.

This section details the various control schemes and item types available in Donkey Kong Country Returns.

Multiplayer Controls:

1. Team Up: Press Z or B (hold up, then press 1) to have Diddy ride on Donkey's back.
2. Revive: If defeated, press A (1) to drop a DK barrel. Your partner must touch it to revive you. Shake the controller to move the barrel closer.
3. Separate: Player 2 can press Z or B (hold down, then press 1) to get off Donkey's back and regain full control of Diddy.

Diddy Kong Specifics (Multiplayer):

1. Jetpack: Hold A (2) in midair to use Diddy's jetpack for small gaps. Player 2 controls this when separated; Player 1 controls it when teamed up.
2. Peanut Popguns: Shake Player 2's controller continuously to make Diddy shoot peanuts. This can be done while teamed up or separated and is added to the ground-pound when separated.
3. Team Roll: While teamed up, shake Player 1's controller continuously to perform a continuous roll.

Riding Rambi:

1. Mount: Jump on Rambi.
2. Dismount: Press Z or B (hold down, then press 1).
3. Movement: Walk, run, and jump normally. Rambi is invulnerable except to bottomless pits and fire. Diddy's jetpack can provide extra air distance.
4. Charge: Hold left or right while continuously shaking the controller for a quick charge.
5. Ground-pound: Shake the controller while not moving left or right. Rambi cannot crouch or blow air; dismount to perform these actions.

Other Special Controls:

1. Barrel Cannon: Press A (2) to fire in the direction the barrel is pointing.
2. Mine Cart: Jump and crouch normally. Cart speed is fixed.
3. Rocket Barrel: Repeatedly tap A (2) to blast off. Hold A (2) to ascend, release to descend. Use the control stick to move left and right when ascending.

Pickups:

• Banana: Collect 100 for an extra life.
• Banana Bunch: Worth 5 bananas.
• Giant Banana Bunch: Worth 20 bananas.
• Life Balloon: Grants an extra life. Also awarded for bouncing off 8+ enemies in a row.
• Banana Coin: Currency used at Cranky's shop. Awarded for bouncing off 3-7 enemies in a row.
• Heart: Restores one heart. Let a hurting partner grab it.

Important Items:

• Puzzle Piece: Collect all per stage (5, 7, or 9) to unlock music or artwork. Must finish the stage for credit.
• KONG Letter: Collect all four (K, O, N, G) in order for a star medal upon stage completion. Collect all star medals in a world to unlock a secret stage.
• Orb: Found at the end of secret stages. Collect all eight to unlock the Golden Temple.

Purchasable Items (Cranky's Shop):

• Life Balloon: Buy individually (3 coins), in a pack of 3 (7 coins), or a pack of 7 (15 coins).
• Squawks: Costs 15 banana coins per stage. Squawks alerts you to nearby puzzle pieces.
• Heart Boost: Costs 10 banana coins per stage. Increases max hearts to three for the stage.
• Banana Juice: Costs 10 banana coins per stage. Grants temporary invincibility with ten extra hearts and a golden appearance. Instant-defeat hazards still apply.
