Alright, welcome to USA Mission 5, codenamed "Area Fifty-Two." This one's located in northeastern Egypt and it's a tough one, rated Hard, but it's pretty fun (8/10). Your main goals are to snag four Missile Gantries before they fire and then take down the main man, Dr. Thrax. You'll also get your first taste of the Spectre Gunship here, and you'll be fighting GLA forces pretty early on.
So, the deal is Dr. Thrax is setting up these nasty Toxin Missiles all over the place, and he's using Anthrax Gamma. We gotta stop him, and thankfully, the money from the last mission is still in the bank. This is also your first real showdown against a Specialist General, so expect some new tricks. While aircraft are available, the game actually suggests sticking to ground forces for this one.
When you get into the General's powers, make sure you've got Paladin, Pathfinder, Air Strike, Para Drop, and Fuel Air Bomb ready to go.
- 1You're starting out with just 3 Humvees, 2 Dozers, and your Command Center. Your first priority is to get a base up and running with some defenses.
- 2Send one of your Humvees east, up the hill. You'll find some GLA forces here who are actually willing to fight against Dr. Thrax, and they'll let you take control of their units. This is a huge advantage!
- 3Grab a Worker and build a Tunnel Network connecting your production structures. This makes reinforcing and moving units around much faster. Add more defenses around your base.
- 4The GLA Command Center you've captured gives you access to Rebel Ambush and Anthrax Bomb abilities. You can also build SCUD Launchers, Marauders, Hijackers, and better Technicals from their production facilities.
- 5Start expanding your USA base. Build a Rebel Ambush near the northern part of the map.
- 6There are two bases with the Toxin Gantries. Focus on the eastern one first. Use your Rebel Ambush to take out their Quad Cannon and then capture those two Gantries.
- 7Now, shift your focus to Dr. Thrax's main base. Use your GLA army to attack the vacant GLA base northwest of the blue GLA Base you just cleared. An Anthrax Bomb is great for clearing out any Demo Traps they might have.
- 8For your USA forces, build up a large army and use Tomahawks to soften up defenses from a distance.
- 9The other two Gantries are deep inside Dr. Thrax's main Anthrax Base. Just push through it, destroying everything in your path. If you see a SCUD Storm, take it out.
- 10If you feel comfortable, build up some Super Weapons. Keep pushing your combined USA and GLA forces until Dr. Thrax is defeated.
- 11Pro Tip: Try to get the Chemical Suits Upgrade for your USA units. It'll help them deal with the toxins much better.
