In Animal Crossing: New Leaf, you can obtain special Downloadable Content (DLC) items by connecting your 3DS or 2DS to the internet. Speak to Pelly or Phyllis at the Post Office and select the “Ask for a present” option. The items you receive will differ based on whether you connect to a standard internet connection or a public “Nintendo Zone” connection. To collect all available items, you will need to connect via both methods.

For those looking to create their own Nintendo Zone, you can rename your wireless router’s SSID to “_The Cloud” (Europe) or “Bestbuy” (North America). You may need to temporarily disable wireless security for your 3DS or 2DS to connect.

After a full year, this cycle of DLC will be replaced with 12 new items based on the Western zodiac, such as the Aquarius Urn.

DLC obtained via Nintendo Zone connections can vary significantly by region. Some items may be released earlier in one region or not at all. Available items in Europe and North America include, but are not limited to:

Additionally, if you have SpotPass enabled for Animal Crossing: New Leaf, you may occasionally receive a surprise present. Pete the delivery pelican will appear at your door with the gift the next time you load your game. Surprise delivery items available in Europe and North America include, but are not limited to:

Another method to obtain DLC is through trading with other players. Since the DLC is already present in the game, it can be shared between players. Be aware that some rare DLC items may require significant negotiation or trading to acquire, although many can be reordered from the catalogue, making them less scarce.
