Master Episode 16, 'The Maiden's Shield,' in Valkyria Chronicles. Learn strategies for using ragnite explosives, clearing paths, and defeating enemies to achieve an A rank.
Walkthrough
- 1Start by selecting Alicia and moving south towards the visible enemy shocktrooper. Ignore the first ragnite explosive you see.
- 2Continue southeast along the eastern wall to a fork in the path. Shoot one of the two ragnite explosives on either side of the western path.
- 3Move southeast again, positioning yourself on the eastern side of the gulley wall for cover.
- 4Select your other scout and follow Alicia's path, but this time shoot the other ragnite explosive on the western path. Position this scout close to Alicia. This should cause a landslide that blocks the western path.
- 5Move your engineer and tanks towards Alicia's position. Aim to finish the turn with 1 CP.
- 6On the enemy's turn, their shocktrooper and a hidden lancer should attack your scouts. Use cover fire and counterattacks to defeat them. The enemy ship will advance and use mortar fire; adjust your positions as needed.
- 7On your turn, move your tanks forward. Take your engineer through the first wall and towards the barricades on the left. Use a grenade to clear them. If one remains, a scout can clear it.
- 8Push south through the barricades with your engineer, clearing a path through the mines. Aim for the grassy area on the left, which has fewer mines. Stop short of maximum move to allow scouts to get ahead.
- 9Move both scouts in front of your engineer and finish the turn with 1 CP.
- 10On the enemy's turn, a shocktrooper should emerge from behind the wall; your scouts should defeat it.
- 11Start the next phase with the engineer, clearing a path towards the next set of barricades and destroying them with a grenade. Clear tank mines near the barricades (around three should suffice) and push past the broken barricades, hugging the far left canyon wall.
- 12Finish this phase facing the last three enemies. Move Alicia past the engineer, hugging the left wall, towards a split in the path with ragnite explosives.
- 13From your position, shoot one of the ragnite explosives on the southern side of the left path, just behind a small corner.
- 14Return to a position as far back as possible towards the gulley wall, facing the final three enemies. Move your other scout next to Alicia.
- 15Move your tanks through the minefield, heading straight from one broken barricade towards the other, avoiding tank mines. Move Welkin twice to catch up with the Shamrock. Finish the turn with no CP.
- 16On the enemy's turn, their sniper might target Alicia. The enemy ship will continue to advance.
- 17On your turn, move both tanks through the minefield towards the objective. Move Welkin twice again. Use a smoke round in front of your scouts if they are under fire. End the turn with 2 CP.
- 18Next turn, move Welkin to mortar the group of enemies, prioritizing the shocktrooper.
- 19Move the Shamrock twice and attack one of their troops (the ace is a good target).
- 20Move Alicia towards the objective and finish off the ace, using shots from behind to reduce evasion. This may take two CP.
- 21Move your other scout to kill the lancer.
- 22Finally, move your engineer towards the rest of the troops, stopping when you can see the other ragnite explosives on the eastern side of the second fork in the path, behind a rock.
Tips
- Leave Largo and Rosie behind, as their presence doesn't affect the mission objectives or cutscenes, and fewer troops are easier to manage.
- Scouts are ideal for hitting the ragnite explosives due to their accuracy and mobility.
- Do not blow up all ragnite explosives; only use those necessary to block the ship's path. Blowing up too many can cause an auto-fail by blocking your own path.
- The enemy ship cannot be targeted.
- The enemy ship's mortar fire targets random spots and rarely hinders progress significantly, but be prepared to adjust positions.
- Engineers are crucial for clearing barricades and mines.
- Use smoke rounds to protect scouts if they are under heavy fire.
- Taking shots from behind enemies, especially the ace, significantly increases your chances of hitting and evading counterattacks.
