Tomb of the Unworthy

Solve environmental puzzles and master platforming in the Tomb of the Unworthy in Tomb Raider (2013). Acquire valuable salvage using your Rope Arrow.

Located within the Shantytown region, the Tomb of the Unworthy is an optional challenge tomb that rewards players with valuable salvage and a significant XP boost. This tomb focuses heavily on environmental puzzle-solving and precise platforming. Ensure you have the Rope Arrow unlocked, as it's crucial for navigating this area.

Accessing the Tomb

1. From the Shantytown base camp, head towards the large, dilapidated wooden structures on the western side of the area.
2. Look for a series of yellow-painted ledges and climbable surfaces that lead upwards. Follow these, using your axe to scale any wooden walls.
3. Eventually, you'll reach a higher platform with a small, dark cave entrance. This is the entrance to the Tomb of the Unworthy.

Puzzle Solution: The Hanging Cages

Upon entering, you'll find yourself in a large chamber with a central chasm. The main objective here is to manipulate a series of hanging cages to create a path across the gap and reach the relic at the far end.

1. Initial Platforming:
   • Immediately to your left, you'll see a climbable wall. Ascend it to reach a higher ledge.
   • From this ledge, jump across to the first hanging cage. It will swing precariously.
   • As the cage swings towards the next platform, jump off to land safely.
2. Activating the Counterweight:
   • On this new platform, locate a large, heavy counterweight mechanism. Use your Rope Arrow to pull it towards you. This will cause a second, larger cage to drop into the chasm below.
   • Important: Do not let go of the rope immediately. Keep it taut for a moment.
3. Creating the Bridge:
   • While the larger cage is lowered, quickly look across the chasm. You'll see a wooden beam extending from the opposite side, directly above the newly lowered cage.
   • Aim your Rope Arrow at this wooden beam and fire. This will create a rope bridge connecting your current platform to the large cage.
   • Once the rope is secured, release the counterweight. The large cage will now rise, pulling the rope bridge taut and creating a stable path.
4. Crossing the Chasm:
   • Carefully walk across the newly formed rope bridge to the large cage.
   • From the large cage, jump to the final platform on the other side of the chasm.

Once you reach the final platform, you'll find the tomb's treasure chest. Open it to receive:

• 250 Salvage
• 250 XP
• The "Illumination" Skill (a permanent upgrade that highlights interactive objects in Survival Instinct, making exploration easier).

examine the Relic (a small, ornate statue) and the Document (a tattered journal entry) located near the treasure chest for additional XP and lore. After collecting your rewards, you can either retrace your steps or use fast travel to return to a base camp.
