Welcome back, survivor! This section is dedicated to those moments when you need to revisit previously explored areas, whether for missed collectibles, challenges, or just to soak in the atmosphere. Remember, fast travel via Base Camps is your best friend for efficient backtracking.
Revisiting the Coastal Forest
The Coastal Forest, while an early area, holds several secrets you might have overlooked. With new gear, these become accessible.
- Rope Ascender Required: If you missed the Illuminated Manuscript (Relic) near the waterfall, you can now use your Rope Ascender on the thick rope leading up the cliff face. This will take you to a small ledge with the collectible.
- Shotgun Access: Certain destructible barriers, marked by weak wooden planks, can now be shattered with your Shotgun. One such barrier in the northern part of the forest, near the path leading to the Mountain Temple, hides a GPS Cache.
- Bow Upgrade Opportunity: With the Rope Arrow ability, look for hanging bundles of salvage in high trees. There are two such bundles in the eastern section of the Coastal Forest, each yielding valuable Salvage for weapon upgrades.
Shantytown Revisited
Shantytown is a sprawling, dangerous area, and you likely rushed through it the first time. Take your time on this return trip.
Upper Shantytown Collectibles
- Grenade Launcher Required: Near the large, broken bridge that connects to the Cliffside Village, there's a reinforced metal barrier. Use your Grenade Launcher to destroy it, revealing a hidden alcove containing a Document (Solarii, "The General's Demise").
- Climbing Axe & Rope Arrow: In the area with the large, burning structures, look for climbable walls that were previously out of reach. One such wall, accessible with the Climbing Axe, leads to a precarious platform with a Relic (Ancient Coin). From this platform, you can also spot a distant rope line. Use your Rope Arrow to create a zipline to another rooftop, where a GPS Cache awaits.
Lower Shantytown Scavenging
- Torch Puzzles: Several small shacks in the lower, flooded sections of Shantytown have entrances blocked by flammable debris. Use your Torch to burn these away, revealing Salvage Crates and occasional Ammunition stashes. Be cautious, as some may contain a lone Solarii straggler.
- Challenge Tomb: If you haven't already, now is an excellent time to tackle the Tomb of the Unworthy in the eastern part of Shantytown. This tomb requires careful platforming and a puzzle involving water flow. Completing it grants you a significant XP boost and a Treasure Map for the area.
Geothermal Caverns: Unfinished Business
The Geothermal Caverns are a labyrinth, and it's easy to miss things in the heat of battle. Return with a clear head.
- Pry Axe & Rope Ascender: In the chamber just before the large, open area with the geothermal vents, there's a heavy metal door. Use your Pry Axe to force it open, revealing a small passage leading to a Relic (Jade Statue). Further in, a strong rope barrier can be pulled down with the Rope Ascender, opening a shortcut and revealing a GPS Cache in a hidden nook.
- Explosive Barrels: Keep an eye out for explosive red barrels. There are several strategically placed in the larger cavern areas that can be used to clear debris blocking paths to Salvage Crates or even reveal new routes. One such barrel near the central chasm can be shot to clear a path to a ledge with a Document (Confessions of a Solarii).
Remember to consult your map frequently and use Survival Instincts (press L3/Left Stick) to highlight any remaining collectibles or interactable objects. Happy hunting!
