Learn the best methods to farm Grade in Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition, including tips for normal gameplay and the powerful 'Blah Blah Blah TIDAL WAVE!' grinding strategy.

Now after seeing how much Grade it takes to buy the good stuff, you may be wondering, 'How can I possibly get that much Grade?' Well there are a number of methods you can use to not only grind Grade, but also slowly accumulate more than a normal player would as you run through the game. We'll start with what we can do over the course of normally playing the game before we focus on the methods for grinding.

First of all. The higher the difficulty you play on, the more Grade you will gradually earn. Hard gives you more grade. And Easy gives you none. So if you want to gradually accumulate the most Grade, be sure to play on Hard.

Next. Try to minimize your item use. Using items will deduct the total Grade you receive at the end of a fight. Also try to keep your party members from getting knocked out, as that will also penalize the Grade you receive. Be sure to use Fatal Strikes as much as possible as well, as you will receive more Grade every time you do.

Now if you play through the whole game while keeping these tips in mind, you should accumulate a fair bit more Grade than a typical play through. However, you will likely find that this still isn't enough to buy everything. This is where we will need to grind. My favorite method for grinding in Tales of Vesperia, is with the help of our favorite broody little mage. Rita Mordio.

Blah Blah Blah TIDAL WAVE!

Many refer to the following method of grinding Grade as the 'Blah Blah Blah TIDAL WAVE!' method. It requires a lot of set up, but the pay off is huge, as you can quickly grind any amount of Grade you want.

In order to use this method, you will need Rita to have the Tidal Wave Arte, as well as the following skills equipped.

  • Light Magic
  • Minimum Damage
  • Spell End
  • O.L. Boost
  • Spirits, Spirits 2, Spirits 3, and Spirits 4
  • OVL Bonus 2

With all of these skills combined, Rita will be able to cast spells faster, in rapid succession, do only 1 damage, and occasionally restore TP after going into Over Limit. Now equip Rita with the Risky Ring, which will reduce her TP consumption to 1.

Next, you want to equip the Weapon Skill, 'Taunt 2' on your three other party members. And also equip Blue Dice on them as well. Each Blue Dice will increase your Grade earned by 20%, making for a maximum of a 60% increase. Now you will want to set up your other three party members with the following strategy settings.

  • Target: Help Allies
  • HP: Avoid Risk
  • TP: Do Not Use
  • Action: Defend
  • Position: Keep Distance
  • Item: Do Not Use
  • OVL: Do Not Use
  • FS: Do Not Use

With these settings, the AI will stand and do nothing but taunt while you go about your business. Not only staying out of the way, but raising the Over Limit gauge as well. Now set the difficulty to Hard and max out your Over Limit gauge. Then go outside of Halure at night and get into a Link Encounter with three or four of the enemies that look like a boar.

Once the battle has begun, have Rita enter Over Limit Lv. 1 and cast Tidal Wave. Mash the 'Arte' button and never stop. The goal here is to juggle the enemies and get the Fatal Strike glyph to pop up over and over and over again. But do NOT do a Fatal Strike. Got it? Just keep using Tidal Wave and keep those enemies juggled. Every time the Fatal Strike glyphs pop up, you are earning Grade. Now all you have to do is . . .

Blah Blah Blah TIDAL WAVE! Blah Blah Blah TIDAL WAVE!

Blah Blah Blah TIDAL WAVE! Blah Blah Blah TIDAL WAVE!

When the Over Limit gauge is about to empty, cast Tidal Wave, then immediately enter Over Limit Level 1 again, and cast Tidal Wave. The combo should keep going. If you start to run out of Over Limit gauge, have an ally throw a Limit Bottle to refill another bar for Rita to use. If you find yourself low on TP, order one of your allies to throw Rita an item to restore it.

The longer you keep this up, the more Grade you will ultimately earn. At least to a point. I suggest the maximum time you keep this up for is 15 straight minutes, as the Grade will eventually cap and you won't earn as much, if anymore at all.

When you are ready to end the fight, go ahead and use Fatal Strikes to kill all of the enemies and net yourself even more Grade. If all went correctly, you should have earned hundreds upon hundreds of Grade in about 15 minutes.

There are other methods, but this was always my preferred one as I find it to be by far the fastest and most efficient method. You will be able to acquire any amount of Grade you could ever possibly need using this method.
