Altered Artes

Discover how to permanently learn Altered Artes in Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition by using Weapon Skills or Titles, and understand unique cases like Yuri's Dhaos Blast.

An Altered Arte is a normal Arte that has been changed into a different Arte due to an equipped Weapon Skill. For example, the weapon Flamberge contains the 'Chain' and 'Hell Fire' skills. Equipping 'Chain' transforms the 'Azure Edge' Arte into 'Azure Storm,' while 'Hell Fire' transforms 'Wailing Havoc' into 'Pyre Havoc.'

To permanently keep these Altered Artes and add them to your Arte list without the respective skill equipped, you must use the Altered Arte a total of 100 times. Once used 100 times, the Altered Arte will be 'learned' and added to your Arte list, allowing you to unequip the Weapon Skill. If the Altered Arte is a Magic Arte, you only need to use its Altered Arte form 50 times to learn it. Some Altered Artes require more than one skill to be equipped to activate.

A select few Altered Artes require a specific Title to be equipped instead of a Weapon Skill. This functions similarly to equipping a Weapon Skill, but you only need to use the Altered Arte 50 times to learn it permanently. For magic Altered Artes learned this way, only 20 uses are required.

Yuri has a unique Altered Arte. After winning the 100-Man Melee, he receives the 'Dhaos' Cape' accessory. While equipped, Yuri's arte 'Destruction Field' is altered into 'Dhaos Blast.' This Altered Arte requires the 'Dhaos' Cape' to be equipped and cannot be learned permanently, regardless of usage.
