Welcome to Isle Delfino! In Super Mario Sunshine, you’ll be using your trusty FLUDD water pack to clean up a tropical paradise that’s been covered in goop, all while trying to clear Mario’s name. It’s a unique adventure that’s all about mastering FLUDD’s various nozzles for platforming, combat, and exploration across a vibrant island chain.
This guide will help you master every nook and cranny, from finding all the Shine Sprites and Blue Coins scattered throughout locations like Bianco Hills and Ricco Harbor, to advanced FLUDD techniques. We’ll cover essential mechanics and help you defeat those goopy foes and bosses on your quest to uncover all the island’s secrets.
Part 1
Learn how to get the first Shine Sprite in Super Mario Sunshine by arriving at Delfino and completing the FLUDD tutorial.
- 1Upon arriving at Isle Delfino via plane, you witness an advertisement for the island. During the ad, a shadow resembling Mario with a paintbrush appears, noticed by Princess Peach.
- 2The plane lands, but must brake sharply to avoid a 'paint-like goop.'
- 3You gain control and approach a machine named FLUDD, developed by Professor E. Gadd, which you wear like a backpack and use to spray water. Pay attention to the bottom left during the first half of the cutscene (a non-interactive cinematic the game plays automatically) before the tutorial.
- 4After the FLUDD tutorial, you are instructed to wash off black 'M' marks. Doing so yields a gold coin (currently useless). Later, these marks turn red and give blue coins.
- 5Spray water at the central part of the pink goop until it transforms into a goopy Piranha Plant.
- 6When the goopy Piranha Plant opens its mouth, spray water into it. Repeat this process twice.
- 7Defeating the goopy Piranha Plant yields a Shine Sprite. Jump to collect it for your first Shine Sprite in the game.
- 8Following this, the police arrest you for polluting the island.
- Use Ctrl + F to find specific sections in this guide by typing the episode name of the Shine you need help with.
- For secret Shines, type the stage name followed by 'secret shine.' For 100 Coin Shines, type '100 Coins at ' followed by the stage name.
- Blue Coins are listed separately in their respective area sections.
- The second Delfino Airstrip shine is located under Delfino Plaza Shines.
- The final boss section is in the Corona Mountain section.
- To find something else not covered by specific sections, go to the events section.
- For a hidden result, type 'vngskdyu' into the find bar, though it may be disappointing.
- Blue Coins are named in this guide to help you quickly identify them without reading long paragraphs.

Part 2
Super Mario Sunshine Part 2 covers unlocking Ricco Harbor, Gelato Beach, Pinna Park, Yoshi, Sirena Beach, Noki Bay, and the Turbo Nozzle.
- 1After being framed for the island's mess, you are tasked with cleaning Bianco Square.
- 2Follow the path to Bianco Square and locate the goopy Piranha Plant.
- 3Defeat the Piranha Plant by spraying its mouth, or by attacking from a treetop to avoid its attacks. It takes 6 hits.
- 4Once defeated, the sludge disappears, and Shadow Mario kidnaps Peach.
- 5Chase Shadow Mario and spray him with water until he falls.
- 6He will run back to the Grand Pianta Statue, paint an 'M' on it, and jump into the graffiti.
- 7Spray the 'M' on the statue and jump into it to enter the first level, Bianco Hills.
UNLOCKING RICCO HARBOR
- 1A goopy Piranha Plant will appear where the boathouse was.
- 2Defeat it by squirting its mouth. It takes 6 hits.
- 3After defeating it, the boathouse will reappear with an 'M' scribbled on it.
- 4Spray the 'M' to be warped to Ricco Harbor.
UNLOCKING GELATO BEACH
- 1A goopy Piranha Plant will appear where the lighthouse was.
- 2Defeat it by squirting its mouth. After 3 hits, a circle of sludge squids will appear.
- 3To avoid the sludge squids, spend the battle on the rooftops.
- 4After defeating it, the lighthouse will reappear with an 'M' scribbled on it.
- 5Spray the 'M' to be warped to Gelato Beach.
FRUIT FREIGHTER
The boat system in Delfino Plaza will start working, which is necessary for two Shine Sprites.
UNLOCKING PINNA PARK
- 1After obtaining 10 Shine Sprites, head to the turtle boat in the NW corner of town (next to the cannon) to trigger a (cutscene (a non-interactive cinematic the game plays automatically)) where Peach is kidnapped.
- 2The boat will head to Pinna Island.
- 3The cannon guy has fixed the cannon, allowing you to fire yourself to Pinna Park.
UNLOCKING YOSHI
- 1After saving the sunflowers, Shadow Mario will appear with a Yoshi egg.
- 2Chase him and hold R lightly to make him drop the egg.
- 3Bring the Yoshi egg the fruit it desires (indicated by a thought bubble). The most convenient fruit is usually a banana.
- 4Bananas can be found on the SE rooftop, in the S stall of the market, on a tree near the Pianta statue, or on a platform in the S ocean.
- 5Once the correct fruit is brought to the egg, Yoshi will hatch and be permanently unlocked in levels where he appears.
UNLOCKING SIRENA BEACH
- 1In the area with the Grand Pianta Statue, find the building attached to the fountain.
- 2Go through the building to find a pipe clogged with a giant pineapple.
- 3Have Yoshi eat the giant pineapple to unlock Sirena Beach.
UNLOCKING NOKI BAY
- 1Once you have 20 Shine Sprites, go to the central docks.
- 2Press Y to enter first-person view and look at the sun to be warped to Noki Bay.
UNLOCKING THE TURBO NOZZLE
- 1Once you have 25 Shine Sprites, Shadow Mario will appear with the Turbo Nozzle.
- 2Chase him and spray him with water. He is harder to catch.
- When fighting Piranha Plants, attacking from a treetop can make you invincible to their attacks.
- For the Gelato Beach Piranha Plant, staying on the rooftops is the easiest way to avoid the sludge squids.
- Yoshi can eat various fruits, but bananas are often the most readily available.
Part 3
Complete walkthrough for Part 3 of Super Mario Sunshine, covering unlocking the Rocket Nozzle, Pianta Village, Corona Mountain, and Bianco Hills episodes.
The chase takes place on the rooftops. When push comes to a harder push, Shadow Mario will give you the Turbo Nozzle.
UNLOCKING THE ROCKET NOZZLE AND PIANTA VILLAGE
Requirements: 30 Shine Sprites
Once you get your thirtieth shine, Shadow Mario will appear with the Rocket Nozzle. Chase and spray him. When he reaches the island, it's easier to switch to first-person view and spray him until he falls. Hover/spin jump over to him to get the Rocket Nozzle.
Head to the Shine Gate, then rocket up to the area behind it. Get on the raised grassy part against the Shine Gate, then rocket to the top. Up here, you'll find a pipe leading to Pianta Village, the final area! You can also now get every shine in Delfino Plaza.
UNLOCKING CORONA MOUNTAIN
Requirements: Beat the seventh episode of all seven levels
After finishing your seventh episode, a cutscene shows Shadow Mario jumping off Shine Gate and entering Corona Mountain. Delfino Plaza floods. Swim to one of the white umbrellas near the crate guy's building; they act as springs.
Use the springs and your Hover Nozzle to get behind Shine Gate, then backflip to Shadow Mario's location. Spraying him won't help; instead, approach him. He enters Corona Mountain, and you should follow.
Bianco Hills Shines
EPISODE 1: ROAD TO THE BIG WINDMILL
Walk down the path until you reach a tightrope. Walk across it and jump off onto the path. Follow it to a waterwheel. Jump on a fin and let it carry you to the other side.
You'll find a large field covered in goop with a large pile in the center – a goopy Piranha Plant. Squirt its open mouth 3 times. It will leave behind a hill leading to a broken bridge and a Shine Sprite. Grab the shine.
EPISODE 2: DOWN WITH PETEY PIRANHA!
Follow the path and go across the tightrope again, but this time take a shortcut by turning right. You'll arrive at the lake area, now dirty due to a giant Piranha Plant wearing underpants.
Walk up the hill to the broken bridge, spraying goop as you go. Cross the broken part of the bridge via tightrope or Hover Nozzle, then walk along the winding path. Jump over or walk around any goop balls. Spray the goop until you reach a gap. Jump across the first gap. Hover across the second, long gap. Hover around the vines blocking the third gap. You'll arrive at the big windmill with rideable platforms.
Jump on a platform and wait to get near the top of its rotation, then jump to the roof to meet Petey Piranha. He roars, cracking the roof. Petey and Mario fall to the bottom of the windmill, and a fight begins.
Wash off the goop. Wait for Petey to open his mouth, then spray water into it until he becomes so fat he falls over. Jump onto his stomach and ground pound his belly button to make the water come out. Repeat twice. Once all the mud is gone, a shine is left behind.
After getting your third shine, the boathouse in Delfino Plaza turns to goop. Fixing this unlocks a new stage. It's recommended to complete up to episode 7, or even all 11 shines in Bianco Hills, before entering the new stage.
EPISODE 3: THE HILLSIDE CAVE SECRET
Head to the lake area and look for a cave on the hills across the lake. Near the waterwheel and the shore, you'll see a pole with a tightrope. Walk across it and jump to a platform in the lake. Use the rope here to get to the next platform, then jump to the next.
There's a red gear moving along a tightrope. Walk along the rope and jump when the gear gets near you. Hover over to the next platform, then hover to a ledge. Follow the arrow signs to another arrow pointing up to a tightrope. Backflip up to it, then jump into the cave.
You're warped to a strange place where a version of the Mario theme plays. Shadow Mario steals FLUDD. You're now in a land full of obstacles meant to test your platforming skills.
Part 4
Complete walkthrough for Part 4 of Super Mario Sunshine, covering Episode 4: Red Coins of Windmill Village, Episode 5: Petey Piranha Strikes Back, and Episode 6: The Secret of the Dirty Lake.
- 1Part 4 Introduction: Navigate moving platforms, a maze of moving blocks (recommend going left), and a path with moving cubes. Ride the cubes briefly before they push you off. Then, cross spinning stars, optionally using a backflip for a 1-Up.
- 2Episode 4: Red Coins of Windmill Village: Collect 8 red coins to spawn a Shine.
- Coin 1: On the lower tightrope between two houses.
- 3Coin 2: On the roof of the building to the right of the upper tightrope.
- 4Coin 3: On a white wall reached by walking along a rope above a windmill.
- 5Coin 4: Further along the same white wall.
- 6Coin 5: Even further along the white wall; jump over a charging Gusty to reach it.
- 7Coin 6: On the roof after crossing a rope with a red gear; avoid Gusties.
- 8Coin 7: Hover between two houses with windmill-like tops, grab the coin over the gap.
- 9Coin 8: Wall jump between towers on a building with two towers; the last coin is on the left tower's top.
- 10Episode 5: Petey Piranha Strikes Back: Go to Windmill Village, which is covered in goop. Reach a ledge by the cliff farthest from the start using backflips, wall jumps, and hovering, or by having a goop-covered Pianta throw you there. Climb the cliff. To wake Petey, use Poinks (pigs that attach to your nozzle) to hit him. Aim them by holding R to fill them and releasing R to launch. Hit Petey to start the boss fight. Stay on high ground (cliff or white wall) and spray Petey while he's not moving to make him fall. Avoid his twister attack, then damage him on the ground. Repeat this process twice more to get the Shine.
- 11Episode 6: The Secret of the Dirty Lake: The lake water is harmful, and lilypads rot if stood on too long. The goal is to reach the Cliff Spring Cave at the far end of the lake.
- Intended Route: Use the spray nozzle to propel your lilypad towards the cave. Jump between lilypads. Then, use logs and hover to reach the cave entrance. The Turbo Nozzle can be obtained here but is optional.
- 12Alternative Route: Go to the big windmill and hover to the logs from there.
- 13Cross flipping red and blue platforms.
- 14Get the 1-Up.
- 15Jump to a rotating cube; walk the opposite direction of its rotation.
- 16Cross to the next platform, possibly using a spin jump when the cube stops.
