Learn the weaknesses and attack patterns of the Schism enemy in Silent Hill: Homecoming. Master dodging and use the right weapons to defeat this tough foe.
Walkthrough
- 1Schisms have sharp appendages, a blade-like head, and sharp fingers. They are dangerous in packs; try to separate them or run.
- 2Weakness: Schisms are very weak to shotgun blasts. A normal shotgun blast deals significant damage, and a Bluesteel Shotgun blast can kill them in one shot on Normal difficulty.
- 3Ammo Conservation: Early in the game, shoot a Schism with a shotgun to knock it down, then finish it with a handgun or melee weapon while it's on the ground.
- 4Melee Combat: If using melee weapons, dodge attacks effectively. The grab attack requires an early dodge when the Schism lifts its head towards Alex. Use quick attacks and only charge attacks when the enemy is downed. Counter-attacks after a dodge are effective and can stagger the Schism for a finisher.
Tips
- Head Blade Combo: Dodge the moment the Schism holds its head back for the first swing. Both swings must be dodged if the first is mistimed.
- Head Uppercut: Dodge the moment the Schism ducks. This requires a very fast reaction.
- Arm Swing: Dodge as soon as the Schism leans back to swing its arm.
- Lunging Head Stab: Dodge as the Schism lunges forward. Distinguish this from the grab by noting the Schism holds its head directly upwards before this attack.
- Grabbing Lunge: Dodge right as the Schism holds its head up. This dodge needs to be earlier than expected; dodging as it rushes will result in a grab. The Schism does not hold its head directly up to the ceiling before this attack.
Finishers:
- Dazed Stance: The Schism staggers, holding its head downwards.
- Combat Knife/Ceremonial Dagger: Alex grabs and slices the Schism's neck, then kicks it down as its head detaches.
- Steel Pipe/Crowbar: Alex hits the Schism over the head, then again, and finally plunges the weapon into it.
- Fire Axe/Pulaski Axe: Alex drives the axe into the back of the Schism's head, pulls it back, and cuts the head off.
