Understanding Your Map and Missions

As you begin your journey in Mordor, familiarizing yourself with the in-game map and its various icons is paramount for efficient progression and survival. The game will introduce you to these markers, but here's a breakdown to ensure you're always aware of your objectives and opportunities:

• Gold Icons: Main Missions - These are your primary story objectives. Completing them will advance the narrative and unlock new areas and abilities. Prioritize these when you need to push the story forward.
• Red Icons: Power Struggles - These dynamic events are crucial for strengthening yourself and influencing the Orc hierarchy. Completing them grants you Power, which is essential for unlocking new tiers of upgrades. As you gain Power, you can spend Ability Points (earned through experience) to learn new skills. Furthermore, the outcomes of Power Struggles can cause individual Uruks to rise in rank, increasing their Power Rating and making them more formidable, but also potentially more rewarding to defeat later.
• White Icons: Side Missions and Collectibles - These offer valuable rewards, primarily Mirian, the game's currency. Side missions can provide a good source of income and experience. Collectibles are divided into two types:
  • Ithildin: These ancient symbols are often found inscribed on walls and are only visible when you activate your Wraith form (default key R1). They usually require some platforming and exploration to reach.
  • Artifacts: These are scattered objects that hold fragmented memories. Finding and interacting with them will reveal these memories, offering lore and sometimes small rewards.
• Green Diamonds: Intel - Gathering Intel is vital for understanding your enemies. Intel can be found in various forms:
  • Sensitive documents left out in the open.
  • Possessed by slaves who need rescuing.
  • Held by specific Uruks known as 'Worms.' These Uruks must be grabbed and interrogated to reveal their secrets.

  Interrogating Worms, or any ordinary Uruk, will reveal the identity and strengths/weaknesses of specific enemy Captains. Knowing an Uruk's weaknesses is key to exploiting them in combat and gaining an advantage.

• Herbs: These are medicinal plants found throughout Mordor. While not marked on the main map, they will appear on your mini-map. Different herbs have different markers. Collecting herbs contributes to Survival Challenges, rewarding you with Mirian. They also fully heal Talion upon collection and can be harvested quickly. Claiming Forge Towers in an area will reveal the locations where specific herbs can spawn.

• Intel Gathering: Make it a habit to interrogate Uruks and gather Intel whenever possible. Knowing your enemies' strengths and weaknesses will make future encounters significantly easier.
• Captain Encounters: While challenging, attempting to take on a few Uruk Captains can be rewarding. If you've gathered Intel and identified a weakness, you might be able to defeat them and gain valuable Power and gear.
