Understand Elite Uruk strengths and weaknesses in Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor. Hunt Captains and Warchiefs for potent runes and advantage in combat.

Elite Uruks in Mordor come in two primary ranks: Captains and Warchiefs. These powerful individuals possess unique Strengths and Weaknesses that significantly impact combat. Understanding these traits is crucial for effectively hunting them and acquiring potent runes upon their defeat.

Sauron's army is comprised of various Uruk ranks, with Captains and Warchiefs representing the elite. While Warchiefs are generally stronger and often have Captains as bodyguards, your primary focus will initially be on Captains. Each Uruk, regardless of rank, has a Power Rating, which functions similarly to a character level in other RPGs. However, this numerical value is less important than their individual traits.

Traits are divided into two categories: Strengths and Weaknesses. Weaknesses represent vulnerabilities that can be exploited, such as specific attack types that deal extra damage or even instantly kill the Uruk. They can also manifest as fears, which can remove an Uruk's immunities and special abilities, making them more susceptible to your attacks. Conversely, Strengths can include powerful special attacks, unique abilities like rapid health regeneration or the ability to track hidden enemies, and immunities to certain damage types. Hatreds are a special type of Strength; when an Uruk encounters something they hate, they become stronger rather than weaker.

Gaining intel on an Uruk is paramount to understanding their strengths and weaknesses. By using your Wraith abilities to interrogate or brand lower-ranking Uruks, you can reveal the traits of their superiors. Once you know an Uruk's vulnerabilities, even a seemingly formidable opponent can be defeated with relative ease, sometimes with a single well-placed attack.

The Power Rating of an Uruk directly correlates to the potency of the Rune they will drop upon defeat. Higher Power Ratings mean better runes, which are essential for upgrading Talion's abilities and improving his combat effectiveness. Therefore, while focusing on exploiting traits is key to survival, targeting higher-ranked Uruks is beneficial for long-term progression.

Beyond individual Uruks, the game world is structured around missions and map icons that guide your progression. Gold icons denote Main Missions that advance the story. Red icons represent Power Struggles, which are crucial for earning Power. Power is used to unlock new upgrade tiers, allowing you to spend Ability Points gained from experience to learn new skills. The outcomes of Power Struggles can also lead to Uruks advancing in rank, thereby increasing their Power Rating and making them more challenging, but also more rewarding, encounters.
