Guide to finding Symbols of Death in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire, covering Neketaka Island, Maukotu's Canopy, Nomu the Marauder, Raoa o Hāra, and Oathbinder's Sanctum.
This guide details the locations and encounters related to the 'Symbols of Death' in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire, focusing on Neketaka Island and its surrounding areas.
Neketaka Island
Maukotu's Canopy
Head west across the bridge from Neketaka, then south and west to Maukotu's Canopy. You'll encounter a scripted event. Search the area for human remains and a destroyed campsite. Examine the tracks to identify them as belonging to a lurker. Search for spirits to witness a vision of someone firing a magic bow. Salvage yields crafting materials (fangs, antlers, pelts) and cooking ingredients (sugar, milk, murkberries, water, eggs, pork, fresh fruit). You can optionally bury the bodies or have Xoti harvest their souls. Follow the tracks.
Use a spyglass or cast a distraction spell like Essential Phantom to draw enemies away. You will fight Dank Spores and Sporelings, and potentially two Jungle Lurkers if no distraction was used. Search the enemies' corpses for the Frostseeker war bow. A dog named Trixie is also nearby.
Nomu the Marauder
Return to Neketaka and head west to Nomu the Marauder's camp. Nomu, two other Barbarians, and two Druids will attack. After the fight, loot Nomu's remains for Fine weapons and armor, and the Chameleon's Touch ring.
Raoa o Hāra
Continue west. If you have a high Religion score, you can interact with the shrine at Teo Ramunga. Otherwise, proceed south to Raoa o Hāra. You will encounter a group of Xaurips. Dealing with them requires high skill checks. You can fight them, though they are slightly higher level, or leave them be. Fighting them involves a long battle against eight enemies, with specific loot dropping from certain types: Grubmasters drop Exceptional hunting bows, Plaguestrikers drop Exceptional spears, and Wildgard drops a Superb quarterstaff. Ignore Pāhowane further south as it's part of a later quest. Return to Neketaka to resupply and set sail.
If you bound souls to cannons at the end of _White March_, you will receive a letter from Wengra and the Haeferic's Nose cannon, along with a Burned Book of Law, which triggers a scripted sequence with Woedica. You can answer her as you wish.
Chornu
Sailing north and west around Neketaka Island may lead to an encounter with _The Early Muster_, captained by Chornu. You can claim a bounty on him later. Continue southwest to Oathbinder's Sanctum.
Oathbinder's Sanctum
Ascend the pyramid and enter. On the top floor, collect minor loot from an urn and descend the stairs.
On the second floor, follow the corridor to a central room with a restless spirit. Reading the soul reveals it was a victim of rough justice. Xoti can harvest the soul. Afterwards, four Shadows will attack. Loot the skeletons and a hidden wall compartment containing two garnets.
Oathbinder's Sanctum - Level 3
Back outside, a wall switch reveals stairs to the third level. At the bottom, you'll find a body with a Bloody Note. In the central room, defeat a horde of Cave Beetles. Go through a hole in the wall on the left, watching for a cat named Peter. Continue east to a Flooded Room where two Dank Spores and three Sporelings attack. A body here has a Fine weapon. Return to the central room and open a door to a corridor with a chest of minor loot and an interactable wall. Use a bomb on the wall to access a chest with coin. Backtrack and take the stairs to the bottom level.
Oathbinder's Sanctum - Level 4
Head down the corridor and turn left. Note a door and continue to a room with a pool; walking in it triggers an attack by Black Oozes. Proceed north to a xaurip lair with six Skirmishers, a Priest, and four Wurms. Search a body in the corner for an
