Navigate the Seeker, Slayer, Survivor expansion in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire. This guide covers Kazuwari, the Temple of Toamowhai, and the Crucible trials.
This section assumes you have the Seeker, Slayer, Survivor expansion. If you don't, skip ahead.
You should have received a request to speak to the Steward. Go down below decks to find her. She tells you that an unusual crate has been found. Check it out for a scripted interaction.
Open the chest and you will find a head. The spirit of Muātu, the head's former owner, will address you.
He tells you that the island of Kazuwari needs your aid. Agree to help and he tells you to speak to Humaire, the caretaker. Afterwards, Konstanten tells you that he knows something about the box but isn't otherwise particularly forthcoming.
Sail to Kazuwari which is halfway between Dunnage and Crookspur. As you approach the waterfall that Muātu told you to use to make landfall, you will have another divine encounter.
Galawain tells you that you should leave because the island and its trials will consume you. Whatever. Afterwards, continue on your journey and make landfall.
Kazuwara
Head west to Rebūtara Pass.
Rebūtara Pass
You will come across the skeleton of a giant beast. You can identify it with Survival 13.
Sneak closer and you will find the remains of sacrifices, including a human corpse. You can investigate further to note tracks made by kith and boars. Later in the interaction, you will come across a group of hunters.
They are quite unfriendly and tell you to return to your boat.
Point out that you have a common friend: show them the Wise Teeth Necklace and you can make an Intimidate (14) check to get them to leave. Otherwise, tell them that there's no reason for things to turn violent. Say that you belong on the island as much as they do and show the Mark of Nature you got from the Green Lady.
Afterwards, Konstanten reveals that he was a previous competitor in the trials here.
Start making your way north. Ignore the Huaba Māha Depths for the time being and head to Hiuahariki Rise. Make sure that, say, Edér is equipped with +2 Might gloves before clicking on it.
Hiuahariki Rise
You find a Proving Stone at the foot of the hill. Muātu tells you that the stone unlocks an entrance to the Crucible at the top of the hill.
A character with 18 Might can get the stone to the top without injury. Alternatively, a character can cast Maura's Writhing Tentacles. At the top, place the Proving Stone on the pedestal to enter the Temple of Toamowhai.
Temple of Toamowhai
After Muātu tells you where you are, an Arena Warden will speak to you.
You can get some information out of her but she tells you to speak to Humaire to find out more.
Go through the door ahead of you and make your way round to the stairs leading to the Spectator Seating. When you get up there, you will see a combat in-progress. Muātu points out Humaire.
She tells you that you need to prove that you belong here by undergoing the Rite of Passage. The Pool of Memories below will tell you the nature of your challenge (1756 XP).
The Rite of Passage
Before making your way downstairs, grab minor loot from the various containers in the seating area. Back downstairs, make your way to the Pool of Memories in the western part of the temple and click on the pool to be presented with a list of challenges.
At this point, the only one available is Agony of the Elements. Accept the challenge and you will immediately be taken to the arena.
Agony of the Elements
Your main enemy here is the Tyrant of Decay. However, it is supported by Obelisks of Air, Water, Fire and Earth which summon Greater Blights. Have a ranged attacker take out the obelisks while the rest of the party keeps up attacks on the Tyrant and you will prevail easily enough. After all enemies are defeated, you will automatically gather any loot dropped.
Back in the temple, speak to Neale, the potion merchant whom you can find to the right of the Inn. Ask what he's working on and he will show you an elaborate belt designed to collect and store ambient soul essence. It's a prototype and he'd like one of the Crucible contestants to help him refine the design. Agree to wear it during the trials to initiate Potions of Plenty. Equip the Unstable Coil from your inventory.
When you return to the Pool of Memories, Humaire will be a bit more forthcoming. It seems that the spirits of the arena are perturbed since Eothas's arrival in the Deadfire: challenges are no longer fair and the animal and kith inhabitants of Kazuwari are becoming increasingly hostile. She needs a Watcher to investigate.
Ask about the Faces of the Hunt to learn how things work around here: complete four trials set by one of the faces and earn the right to take part in the Crucible. Before continuing, you may want to equip Antidotes in your quick slots. Afterwards, click on the Pool to learn your next challenge: the Trial of the Nāga.
Trial of the Nāga
You are pitted against Flame Nāga and Poison Nāga: two shamans, two archers and three melee attackers. There is also a Fire Nāga Totem which summons Fire Drakes and a Poison Nāga Totem which summons Bog Oozes.
Warriors and Marauders block your way to the back line so use abilities like Leap and Charge to get to the dangerous squishies and totems.
Back in the temple, you will meet Pepitlin and his party. Exchange smack talk and return to the Pool of Memories where Humaire gives you a Ceremonial Obsidian Knife. Cut yourself with it to bloody the knife and click on the pool again.
This time, you will have to make an offering of the Bloodied Ceremonial Obsidian Knife to unlock the third challenge, Memories of a Mad Man.
Memories of a Mad Man
This battle is against three copies of Maerwald and a mirror of your own party.
You may fight slightly different enemies depending on how you dealt with Maerwald in the previous game: Greater Flame Blights or Nightmare Shades rather than the Maerwald clones.
Go up one side of the arena so that the enemies have to come to you. The Soul Mirrors have the same ca
