Learn about ship management in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire, including crew roles, hiring specialists, ship resources, and crew upkeep to optimize your naval adventures.

The ship management interface displays your vessel's vital statistics on the left, including crew morale. The center shows crew placement and armaments, while the right side lists your ship's resources: food, water, medicine, ammunition, and repair supplies.

Crew Roles

Crew members fill seven distinct roles, each impacting ship performance:

  • Boatswain: Leads deckhands, increasing their efficiency.
  • Cannoneer: Required to fire cannons; experience improves accuracy.
  • Cook: Reduces food consumption during travel.
  • Deckhand: Essential for combat maneuvers; insufficient numbers reduce ship speed.
  • Helmsman: Controls turning and jibe actions in ship-to-ship combat.
  • Navigator: Increases sailing speed on the world map.
  • Surgeon: Accelerates the healing rate of injured crew members.

Crew Skill and Hiring

Crew members have four skill levels: Novice (1), Seasoned (2), Expert (3), and Master (4). They gain experience from combat and scripted interactions if at least Novice. A crew member's overall rank cannot exceed 4. It is generally better to hire specialists, who focus on a single role, as they can master it more effectively.

The "Legendary Crew" Berath's Blessing allows hiring masters in Port Maje. Specialists for each role include:

  • Boatswain: Luca
  • Cannoneer: Baltia, Coin-Counter Foeldas, Vanizzi
  • Cook: Haema, Ushizu, Vektor
  • Deckhand: Catherina Stormheart, Ora the Mad, Pig-Sticker Rukowa, Ragged Carrow, Rum-Dumb Riggere, Tullak Longfrost
  • Helmsman: Llendreth
  • Navigator: Coreto, Worthless Idiot
  • Surgeon: Big Mouth, Eld Engrim, Shieldsister Daelia

Crew Upkeep

Each crew member requires 1 unit of food and 1 unit of drink daily to maintain morale. They also earn 1cp per day per rank (up to 4cp). While in port, crew are still paid but do not require provisions.

Ship Capacity

Your starting ship can accommodate 11 crew members. There is a trophy for filling all available crew slots.
