Learn how to defeat the Spear enemy in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. This guide covers its attacks, weaknesses, and strategies for victory, including tips on using Goombella and managing HP.
Walkthrough
- 1After the Spear encounter, return to the town square and go into the alley on the left. Find the Bandit in the house there to retrieve your stolen coins. Look around the area for a Star Piece.
- 2Head back to the east side of Rogueport and enter Frankly's house. Goombella will introduce you to Frankly, who will then ask to see your map.
- 3Frankly will explain the map's purpose and the Crystal Stars, then offer to guide you to them.
- 4Outside, Frankly will break down a fence and lead you to a pipe. Before entering, he will teach you about Action Commands. It's recommended to hunt for Star Pieces before proceeding.
- 5Star Piece Locations:
- The Square: Go to the Inn, upstairs, out the door, and to the left. The building is a badge shop. Head to the roof on the left and explore the inaccessible-looking area.
- 6The Square: Behind the Inn, in the alley where the Bandit was. The Star Piece is behind a mattress.
- 7The Square: Near the east exit, behind some boxes.
- 8East Side: Near the west exit, find the brick wall. Go to its approximate center, then go back through the alley. The alley turns right, leading to a Star Piece atop some boxes you must jump on.
- 9Enter the pipe.
Rogueport Sewers:
- Head left and save. Continue left and find a Star Piece behind a pillar. (Star Pieces can be used to obtain badges from Dazzle, who may appear later.)
- Continue right, going down some stairs. A group of Goombas (Goomba, Paragoomba, and Spiky Goomba) will appear.
Stats / Weaknesses:
- Goomba: Max HP: 2, Attack: 1
- Paragoomba: Max HP: 2, Attack: 1
- Spiky Goomba: Max HP: 2, Attack: 2
Strategy:
- Against the Spear: Do NOT jump on it, as this causes 1 HP damage. Use your hammer constantly. Use Goombella to heal. You will need Mushrooms for healing as this fight can take at least ten turns. You will take 20 HP worth of damage if you cannot Guard every turn. If you find the fight too difficult, run away. Winning grants a large amount of Star Points.
- Against the Goomba group: Use appropriate attacks for each enemy type.
