Navigate Hooktail's Castle in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, find the Power Bounce badge, and uncover Koops' father's secret.
Walkthrough
- 1After Koops joins, his girlfriend Koopie Koo may appear to question his decision.
- 2Continue west, fighting enemies. Use the pipe in the next area.
- 3On top of the pipe, use Koops's shell ability to shoot it left and grab the Happy Heart badge.
- 4In the area with odd rocks, insert the Sun & Moon Stones into their slots.
- 5Examine the holes to move the rocks, revealing writing on the middle rock.
- 6Use Koops's hold-shell ability, hold him away from the right switch, and go to the left switch.
- 7Release X and press B to hit the switches simultaneously.
- 8The middle rock will move, revealing a pipe. Use it.
- 9Head east and enter Hooktail's Castle.
- 10Before using the springboard, exit the lower east and go east to the bridge.
- 11Continue straight to fall near a small rock. Cross until the gap is too big, then use Koops to grab the HP Plus badge.
- 12Re-enter the area with the springboard. Heal with the Heart Block (costs coins) and save if desired.
- 13Exit east and use the plane panel.
- 14Enter the castle through the door on the other side.
- 15In the first room, you will see Koopa remains, Dull Bones, Koopa Troopas, and Paratroopas. It is best to use Goombella for these battles.
- 16Hit the red box for the Power Bounce badge.
- 17In the next room, you will find Koopa skeletons.
- 18About halfway through, Koops will notice his father's skeleton with a letter.
- 19The letter reveals Hooktail's weakness (something starting with "cr-" and ending with "-icket") and mentions an item related to it is in the castle.
- 20The letter warns not to fall for Hooktail's tricks and mentions Kolorado.
- 21Head to the right side of this room and examine the red skeleton.
- 22The red skeleton comes alive and summons a swarm of Dull Bones that will push you back. Hammer them repeatedly.
- 23Examine the red skeleton again to battle it.
Miniboss Battle:
- Red Bones: Max HP: 5, Attack: 3
- Dull Bones (x4 or more if delayed win): Max HP: 1, Attack: 2
Tips
- The HP Plus badge is rather useless but can be sold for good cash.
- The Power Bounce badge is essential for winning the game; without it, you will have a lot of trouble.
- Use Goombella for battles against Koopa Troopas and Paratroopas in the first room.
- Be prepared for the Dull Bones to constantly push you back during the Red Bones miniboss fight.
