Miners excel at collecting ores and gems from deposits. These ores can be transformed into ore bars used in crafting, making the Miner Life very useful for crafting professions like Blacksmith or Alchemist.

Life Quest: Lucky Pickaxe

Start by talking to Meralda, the Life Master whose Guild is southwest of the Guild Office. She will accept you as an apprentice and give you your first task: collect three pieces of Mysteria Coppers. Then, talk to her brother Beryl in the mines northwest of Eternia Village, who will teach you the basics of Mining.

Mining is straightforward. Approach an ore deposit and strike it with your pickaxe. A normal strike uses the default button, while a hard strike uses another. Aim for the deposit's weakpoint, or 'sweet spot,' to deal more damage. Your goal is to deplete the deposit's HP before your Stamina Points (SP) run out. Higher level deposits have more HP and are harder to find the sweet spot. Deposits slowly regenerate HP if not actively being hit.

Landing a final blow with high damage results in an 'Excellent' gathering, yielding more items. As your mining skill increases, you will unlock abilities to help find sweet spots, increase your lucky hit rate (similar to critical hits in combat), and other useful skills.

You will earn the achievements Material Collector (Gathered your first material) and Excellent Technique (Executed your first Excellent gathering).

After speaking with Beryl again, report back to Meralda at the Guild. You will then be instructed to sell the ores you've gathered at the Material Shop located in front of the Miners Guild.

Following a scene, Beryl will ask you to find a Fortuna Topaz for his sister's birthday. Your next objective is to speak with the fortune-teller in the Capital City. Her house is the first door to the left of the stairway in the Capital City.

Inside, the Fortune-teller will reveal that the deposit containing the Fortuna Topaz is located on the beach southwest of the city. Travel to the marked location, where you will encounter Meralda, who also intends to mine the Fortuna Topaz. After a short conversation, she will allow you to mine the deposit. Once you have obtained the Fortuna Topaz, return to Meralda at the Guild to be promoted to Fledgling Miner.
