Follow this guide to complete Chapter 3: Digging Up Secrets of the Past in My Time at Portia. Learn how to find Duglas, deal with Strangelings, and rebuild the Guild Office.
Objective: Gather info at Eternia Village
Talk to Skelegon to go back to Eternia Village, where Rem is waiting for you and asks to join on your search of this mythical Miner. You'll see the marker above an old lady to the right, but let's talk first to the yellow Plushling with a hat next to the Guild Office who'll introduce us to the Bulletin Board.
The Bulletin Board is a small quest board that rewards you island points for visiting certain locations on the island you're in or finding a certain creature. Leveling up the island rewards you with Recipes, decorations for your island, among others. You'll most likely get some of these while exploring, so do be sure to check the board once in a while to grab the rewards.
You can now speak with Granny Dumpling, who tells you that the man you're looking for is Duglas, but he hasn't been seen for a while ever since he went into Warren Willow Hollow. Guess it's time for an adventure.
Objective: Go to Warren Willow Hollow
Head to the next area. The hollow is northwest of the Capital City, so make your way there. One of the Paladins will stop you on the way to tell you about strong enemies in the area and a character with red eyes. Scary. On your way there, you might find a dragon sleeping. That is a Napdragon, a powerful Boss.
Bosses are high leveled enemies found around the world. With a decent leveled team (say, 5-10 levels below the Boss' level) it's possible to take them down, which will earn you tons of EXP and items.
Boss Slayer - Defeated your first boss.
Once you reach Warren Willow Hollow a small scene will play. Head inside to continue.
Warren Willow Hollow
Objective: Search Warren Willow Hollow
This cave isn't that big. The first room has some ore deposits if you have the Miner Life already unlocked, while the second has some enemies level 10 and above, so make sure your combat Lives are on point. Keep moving to reach the marker in the middle of the room, where you'll be attacked by some Jerkish Jackals. Fortunately, a mysterious knight appears to even the odds.
Objective: Search for a Miner
The knight introduces himself as Glenn, a travelling mercenary. After the scene is over, proceed deeper into the cave, exploring and gathering any items you find. In the next room are some more enemies, so take them out to reach the marker at the last room.
As you reach the end of the cave, a scene will play with Meralda, the Life Master for Miners, who tells you that Duglas might've left the island. That's not true, as we quickly find out that he has been turned into a Strangeling. After the scene ends, you'll get the Sturdy Wheelbarrow, Duglas Strangeling form.
Time to leave the cave. Head all the way back, watching the scene about Eternia Ore, a powerful mineral that can control time. Once outside, another scene will play introducing us to Aeshan, the High Priest of Mysteria.
Objective: Return to the present
Open up the Map and select the present to return to the Present. As soon as you arrive, you'll notice a new building. This is the Guild Office rebuilt, which we'll talk about soon because right now you won't be able to do anything right now. Head outside and up the stairs to the Goddess Statue, but she requires 100x Celestia's Gifts.
Celestia's Gifts are the currency needed to turn Strangelings back into humans. They grow once per real-time day, so make sure to grab them when you see them.
As you develop your base camp, more and more will appear, so it's a good idea to add new buildings and spruce up the place to make it easier on you to help more Strangelings.
Cooke appears and suggests making a house for Kunugi to start the revival of this island. To do that, we need to return to the Office Guild.
Unlike its Past counterpart, this Guild Office has a lot more features. If you ever played _Animal Crossing_ you'll have no trouble getting used to this building. Here you can build new homes for villagers, infrastructures like bridges and stairs, register new villagers into homes, buy items and access to Multiplayer.
Below you can find where and what each character in the Guild Office role is:
- Boyle: Administration - Register Villagers, change the Island name, change your name and party formation.
- Cooke: Infrastructure - Build/Customize new homes, bridges or stairs; expand your home, relocate the Guild Office.
- Marco: General Store - Buy and sell a variety of items. The selection expands as you do more in the story, level up your Lives or complete various activities for the base.
- Colm: Multiplayer - Host or Join an existing session.
- Polo: Another store, with less items. Works the same way as Marco's.
This Guild Office also has a Bulletin Board that works just about the same as the one we found earlier in the chapter, the only difference being the objectives are related to building your island.
Speak with Cooke to open the Structure menu. Select "Islander's House" and pick the Thatched House. Head outside and press to enter the placement menu. Select the house you just got and place it wherever you like. Once that's done, wait for the bar to fill up then examine the tent to complete building the house.
Now head back to the Guild Office and talk to Boyle. Pick "Islander Management", select the house you just built and register it to Kunugi and boom! You just got your first villager.
Marco and Polo will appear and give you some items to place, like a fireplace, a bench, some firewood and a bench. Place them however you like it and sure enough the Celestia's Gifts. Grab all the flowers you see until you get to 100. Before you head to the Goddess Statue, you might've noticed that Kunugi is a Buddy now.
