Hey there, hunter! So you're looking to try out the Lance in Monster Hunter World: Iceborne? Awesome choice! It's a weapon that's got some good reach and, crucially, a solid shield to block attacks. Honestly, it can feel a bit slow at times, but don't let that fool you – it's not exactly a walk in the park to truly master. That said, if you're just starting out and want a weapon that's a bit more forgiving than some of the others, the Lance is a fantastic place to begin. It's got a pretty gentle learning curve.

Let's talk about where you can start. You've got the Iron Lance, which is part of the Ore-based weapon line. It's got three starting tiers, and all the other Ore-tree lances branch off from it. I haven't personally tinkered with this one much yet since I went straight for the Bone-tree lance when I started. My bad for not having more info on it right now, but I'm working my way through all 14 weapon types, so I'll get to testing out at least one tier of every weapon eventually!

Then there's the Bone Lance. This one also has three tiers and can eventually evolve into a Rarity 6 weapon if you follow its tree. You might have already noticed that weapons from the Bone tree generally pack more of a punch damage-wise compared to the Ore-tree stuff. At its third tier (Tier III), this Bone Lance will hit for 253 base damage. Remember, the Lance is a bit on the slower side, but it really shines with its guard-and-attack style. It's super easy to block incoming hits and immediately counter-attack, which is a huge plus.
