Discover the Bow's mechanics, coatings, and key attacks in Monster Hunter World: Iceborne. Learn about the Iron Bow, Blooming Arch, and Hunter's Bow to start your ranged combat journey.

Hey there! So you're looking to get into the Bow in Monster Hunter World: Iceborne? Awesome choice! It's a super fun weapon with a lot of cool tricks up its sleeve. Let's break down what makes it tick and look at a few early-game options to get you started.

The Bow itself feels fantastic to use. You've got a variety of attacks, and the coatings you can apply to your arrows add a whole new layer of strategy. Right now, Blast Coating is a personal favorite – it really packs a punch! Don't sleep on the basic R2 shot spam; it's a solid bread-and-butter move. You can even chain that into an Arc Shot with R2, R2, Circle. The Dragon Finisher is pretty slick too, though it takes a bit more practice to get the timing down. Honestly, it's one of the most enjoyable weapons I've used in the game.

Early Bow Options

Let's talk about some bows you might be looking at early on:

  • Iron Bow: This is your starting point if you're diving into the Bow from the Ore tree. It's pretty basic, only letting you use Close Range and Power Coatings, and Power Coatings are kinda rare early on. It's probably the weakest bow overall. At Tier III, it'll hit for 120 damage, and you'll need Earth Crystals to get it there.
  • Blooming Arch: Now, this one's really interesting. I even put together a build for it! The coolest part is its Poison Coating arrows. See that simple ( + ) indicator next to the icon? That usually means they deal extra poison damage, maybe even double the normal amount. I tested it out on a Tobi-Kadachi, which is super susceptible to poison, and wow, the poison damage is a huge kicker. While the base damage increase between Tiers I and II wasn't huge, the poison effect absolutely shredded the Tobi-Kadachi. This bow also has a Paralysis option for coatings!Warning: Be careful not to waste those 20/20 Poison Coated arrows on Arc Shots. As far as I can tell, Arc Shots don't get that extra poison damage bonus. They might do a bit more raw damage, but it's probably not worth it. The Blooming Arch is crafted using parts from the Pukei-Pukei. You'll need other materials later on to get it to its evolved Tier III.
  • Hunter's Bow: Coming from the Bone tree, this bow can deal up to _169_ damage at Tier III. To upgrade it, you'll need Monster Hunter Bone S, Monster Hunter Bone M, and Ancient Bones. This one's versatile, letting you use Close Range, Poison Coating, and Paralysis Coating.

Keep an eye out for these as you progress. Each one offers something a little different, and figuring out which coatings work best for each situation is part of the fun!
