Hey there, rookie hunter! So, you're diving into Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate and feeling a bit lost? Don't sweat it! This guide is going to break down the controls so you can stop worrying about button prompts and start focusing on taking down those massive beasts. Think of me as your buddy walking you through it, step-by-step.

You'll start off with your weapon sheathed, and there are a few key things to know. You'll use the Left C-Stick along with pressing R (ZR) to move around – whether you're just walking or breaking into a run. Want to look around? The D-pad or the CPP C-Stick lets you freely rotate the camera. If a monster catches your eye, or you just want to face forward, hold down L (ZL). Need to quickly scroll through your items? Hold L and press either A or Y. For the main menu, it's the trusty START button. When you need to interact with the world, like gathering a resource or selecting an option in a menu, that's your A button. To dodge out of the way of an attack or back out of a menu, you'll use B. And the moment you're ready to fight, press X to unsheathe your weapon.

Now, once your weapon is out, things change up a bit. Your A button will perform a secondary attack combo, while X is your primary attack combo. If you're using a Gunner weapon, X is also your reload button. Want to put that weapon away? Just press Y. You can also combine buttons for more moves: X + A will unleash a special attack. And for those really powerful, weapon-specific moves, you'll use R (ZR), sometimes in combination with A or X.
