Learn how to defeat Metal Gear Ray in Part 2 of the Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance boss battle, including attack patterns and QTEs.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
After the previous battle, proceed through the destroyed building on the left side of the street, indicated on your minimap (a display showing your surroundings and objectives), and use Ninja Run (a rapid movement technique) to climb the destroyed stairs.
  2. 2
    Chase Sundowner through the sewers.
  3. 3
After jumping underneath a large pipe, but before sliding underneath the very next sewer gate, cut through the thin horizontally stretched grate near the ground.
  4. 4
Slide through the grate by holding Ninja Run + Y (Xbox) or Triangle (PS3) to reach a dark area containing Data Storage #1.
  5. 5
Continue to the end of the alley and climb the building to trigger the next boss fight.
  6. 6
In the much smaller arena for the Metal Gear Ray - Part 2 boss battle, study Ray's attacks and focus damage on its head.
  7. 7
After a short while, Raiden will enter Blade Mode (a state allowing precise cutting), enabling you to cut off its head's armor.
  8. 8
Continue damaging its head, even when it's not stuck, but be aware of increased vulnerability to Ray's attacks.
  9. 9
After destroying its turret during the second Blade Mode sequence, inflict a little more damage to Ray to trigger a Quick Time Event (QTE - a timed button prompt sequence).
  10. 10
Xbox 360 QTE: Hold Left Stick Up + RT, enter Blade Mode. Stay on the right side of the tower as you run down, moving to the left side immediately after running over the pillar. Then, tap X.
  11. 11
PS3 QTE: Hold Left Stick Up + R2, enter Blade Mode. Then you'll need to stay on the right side of the tower as you run down, moving to the left side immediately after running over the pillar.

Ray's Attacks:

  • Plasma Beam: A long-range attack usually accompanied by gunfire. Attack the beam by running horizontally to the other side of the screen or diagonally towards Ray's position. Hiding underneath Ray is safe if you are close; otherwise, jumping over is dangerous. Ray also performs a second, horizontal beam attack.
  • Charge Ram: Used at a distance. Ray roars, then rams towards you. Use Ninja Run to move along Ray's side to avoid it and attack its legs or tail. Parrying this attack allows entry into Blade Mode to destroy Ray's armored head shell. Parrying subsequent attacks grants opportunities to destroy Ray's turrets.
  • Face Smash: Used at close range when you are in front of Ray. Ray performs this three times in a row. Avoid by circling Ray with Ninja Run to attack its legs. Parrying this attack allows entry into Blade Mode to destroy Ray's armored head shell. Parrying subsequent attacks grants opportunities to destroy Ray's turrets.
  • Arm Swipes: Performed twice vertically when you are in front of Ray. Avoid standing in front for too long; staying close to its legs is safer. Parrying is also possible.
  • Foot Stomp: Used when carving Ray's callus from its legs. A dotted red line indicates the impact area. Only a quick Ninja Run circling Ray will surely escape. Parrying a foot stomp attack gives you a chance to cut away the leg's armor or turret.

Ranking Table #1 Requirements:

  • Time: 3:00 (1000 points), 3:30 (800 points), 5:00 (500 points), 6:00 (200 points), 8:00 (100 points)
  • No Damage: 1000 points

  • 1000 points: S
  • 800 points: A
  • 500 points: B
  • 200 points: C
  • 0 points: D

  • Parrying the Charge Ram or Face Smash allows entry into Blade Mode to destroy Ray's armored head shell and turrets.
  • Staying close to Ray's legs is safer than standing in front during Arm Swipes.
  • Use a quick Ninja Run circling Ray to escape the Foot Stomp.
  • Parrying the Foot Stomp allows you to cut away leg armor or turrets.
