Learn how to defeat the Evil Eye in Dragon's Dogma 2! Discover its barrier mechanics, weak points, and strategies for ranged and melee characters to emerge victorious.
Alright, so you've run into the Evil Eye, huh? This big fella's got this magical barrier that makes it totally invincible. You can't just hack away at it while that shield is up, so we need to be a bit smarter about this.
The key thing to remember is that the Evil Eye itself is its weakest point, but only when the barrier is down. So, how do we get that barrier to drop? Well, it's got a bit of a tell: whenever the Evil Eye decides to cast a spell, it has to drop its barrier. If you've got any ranged attacks – bows, magic, you name it – this is your prime opportunity. Just blast away while it's busy powering up its own magic.
Now, if you're more of a close-combat fighter without those handy ranged options, don't worry, you're not out of luck. You'll need to be super observant and dodge its attacks. Keep an eye on its ground-based tentacles; when they pop up, that's your cue to start chopping. Hack off enough of those tentacles, and the beast will get stunned, collapsing onto the ground with its main eye exposed. Go for the eye then! If you manage to destroy even more, it'll try to regenerate its eyes, and guess what? It's vulnerable again during that process too. So, the general strategy is: hit it when it casts spells, and attack its tentacles when they're accessible.
After the Fight:
Once you finally take down the Evil Eye, you'll snag the 'Eye Contact' Achievement/Trophy. Nice! After you've looted the place, it's time to get out of the Everfall. This whole fight was basically just a setup for that. The easiest way to bail is by using a Ferrystone – seriously, make sure you're always carrying a few. If you're fresh out of Ferrystones, there's still a way. You can leave the Chamber of Confusion, head back into the Everfall, and just jump into the void. You'll end up back at the top. From there, just move your character north and grab the highest ledge to get out.
Moving On:
Next, you'll find yourself on a metal disc, kind of like the one from the Pawn Guild back in the day. Head east down some stairs, then south, and you'll meet Akim, a merchant who can sell you some useful status-restoring items, Jewels, and some pretty decent, albeit expensive, Golden Wristbands. Keep an eye out for Quince too; she's waiting for you to gather enough Wakestones. Once you're ready, go counter-clockwise up a ramp until you find a tunnel to the north that leads back to the Pawn Guild.
So, we've survived another tough encounter. Our next big task is to gather enough Wakestones in the Everfall to deal with those creepy voices we keep hearing. The Duke is still not exactly our buddy, but we should be okay in Gran Soren as long as we steer clear of the Noble Quarter. There's one more major foe we need to face, someone we met earlier but who managed to slip away.
Heading to the Frontier Caverns:
Our next destination is the Frontier Caverns. You should remember the path: through the Ancient Quarry, past the Shadow Fort, and into the Caverns themselves. Be warned, the Shadow Fort isn't safe anymore; it's crawling with Hobgoblins, Goblins, and Cyclopses again. Once you're in the Frontier Caverns, make your way to the Proving Grounds – that's the arena where we fought that Cyclops for the Silver Idol. This time, though, you won't find a Cyclops. Nope, you're up against a Hydra.
ENEMY STRATEGY: HYDRA
The Hydra is a massive, four-headed serpent. It's probably the same one we tangled with way back at the Encampment. It's not exactly a subtle enemy, but when you're that big, who needs fancy tactics?
