Complete walkthrough for Part 28 of Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, including the Fugu Face-Off boss fight and the Spinning Spines level.
Walkthrough
- 1In the labyrinth, swim to refill your air and get the blue key.
- 2Grab the 'N' below the blue chest after defeating the fritz.
- 3Swim left to the next room. Collect bananas to open the ceiling. The right-most set contains a heart and two banana coins, the center has mines, and the third opens a new pathway. Take this path.
- 4In the next room, swim down against the current, collecting all bananas to reveal a puzzle piece.
- 5The blue chest is also here; open it for the yellow key. Swim back up and take the left path, which returns you to the start of the stage.
- 6Re-enter the labyrinth and take the bottom path again to reach the yellow chest. Open it for a purple key, which can be used on the large lock to the right. Continue into the next area.
- 7Follow the trail of bananas to reach the 'G'.
- 8Corkscrew open the barrel chest to the right of the slot barrel for a puzzle piece.
Boss Fight: Fugu Face-Off
Stats / Weaknesses:
- The fight takes place underwater; watch your air meter.
- Bubbles rise from the bottom for air refills.
- Walls are lined with sharp snail shells, avoid touching them.
Phases:
- Fugu starts with suction, then a blowing attack. Swim boost and corkscrew away from the blowing attack. He will then roll, exposing his backside for a corkscrew hit. He gets dizzy after a hit. He then spits green fish; corkscrew them away or avoid them. Bumping a fish back into Fugu deals damage. Alternatively, he lunges back-first after building pressure, opening him for attack. Hit him three times to advance.
- Fugu repeats the suction and blowing attacks, now with added urchins. Try to hit fish back at him for a free hit, followed by a corkscrew. He then rolls, gets dizzy, and may send a complex assortment of urchins and fish. The cycle restarts if not defeated in three hits.
- Fugu uses two suction attacks, growing large. He rolls around the arena, switching between top and bottom. Switch positions accordingly. He then performs a blowing attack, followed by a lunge that opens him for attack. This lunge knocks fish and snails around. He then rolls, fires urchins and fish. Hit him with a quick combo if possible, avoiding urchins. The cycle restarts if not defeated in three hits.
Strategy:
- Hit Fugu a total of three times in each phase to progress.
- Bumping his own projectiles back at him is an effective strategy.
- Be mindful of the environment and your air meter.
Level: Spinning Spines
Requirements:
- Earn a star medal by collecting all KONG letters on every other stage on this island (Rockin' Relics, Shoal Atoll) to access this level.
Walkthrough
- 1Ignore the giant spinning stones in the background; they function as normal moving platforms.
- 2Forward, defeat the fish poker pop guarding an urn by rolling into him when he winds up. Ground-pound the urn for a puzzle piece.
- 3After a barrel cannon section, wait for a buzzy to move, then roll-jump down a gap to grab a puzzle piece and reach the other side.
- 4After firing into the lava area, jump onto the first platforms attached to a spinning stone. Reach the top-left corner for a puzzle piece.
- 5As you climb a rotating pillar of platforms, lava will rise. If you reach the barrel cannons in time, shoot left for a puzzle piece. If too slow, the lava will destroy the barrel.
- 6At the top of the barrel cannon section, make a short trip right to claim the island's mysterious relic.
Collectibles:
- Puzzle Pieces: 5
