Continue the murder investigation in Divinity: Original Sin by tracking down Evelyn. Search her house, find clues, and learn about her connection to Dietmar and Conduit.

Alright, let's get back to cracking this case! First things first, head back to Thelyron's Clinic. You'll need to have a chat with Thelyron again.

It turns out Evelyn has skipped town, but don't worry, she left something behind – her pouch. Thelyron will point you towards it. After you've had a good look through her pouch, it's time to check out her house. It's just to the west of the Clinic. Inside, near the window in the next room, you'll find a backpack. Open it up, and inside you'll snag the "Key to Evelyn's House". While you're still at the Clinic, keep an eye out for a "Smelly Coat". Grab that – it's important for getting a certain dog's opinion later. Oh, and you'll also find the Key to Thelyron's Back Room. Go ahead and unlock that door and have a good loot around.

Now, make your way over to Evelyn's house, which is right next door to the Clinic. Give the place a thorough search. Right by the entrance, there's a chest. Inside, you'll find a "Reveal Spell". Keep this handy, it's going to be super useful for finding Evelyn later on. On the shelf just above that chest, grab "Evelyn's Diary". Reading this is where things start to click. Evelyn mentions someone named "Dietmar" and the Staff – this is almost certainly Cecil's Staff of Pergamon. She also talks about "Conduit", a name you might recognize from that religious fanatic in the Tavern. You'll even find a letter on the table from Conduit to Evelyn. Pretty juicy stuff! Next to that letter, there's a Parchment with the recipe for the Reanimation serum. Interesting, though probably not something you can whip up just yet. The Mortician and Esmeralda are also mentioned on this Parchment.

After all that searching, it's pretty clear that Evelyn is our culprit. Even Murphy, the dog at the graveyard, will confirm this if you let him sniff Evelyn's Smelly Coat. So, your next big goal is to find her. Based on the clues from her house, her secret Lair is located near a northwest beach and she's magically disguised it. This is where that Reveal Spell comes into play – use it once you find the Lair to make it visible. Both Evelyn's House and her Lair will be marked on your Map, so you can't miss them. While finding Evelyn is important, you won't be able to access her Lair just yet, so try to be patient.

To wrap up the quest "The Councillor's Wife", you'll need to report back to Captain Aureus. You've gathered some evidence that points towards Esmeralda, but it's not exactly solid proof, and now you know Evelyn was the real mastermind. When you talk to Captain Aureus, mention that there might be someone to arrest, but your main characters will discuss the situation. You'll have the option to decide that there isn't enough direct evidence to arrest Esmeralda, and with that, the quest will be complete.
