Learn how to revisit the Undead Asylum in Dark Souls Remastered, defeat the Stray Demon, and get the Crest Shield.
Walkthrough
- 1From Firelink Shrine, travel to the Crow's nest. You can reach it by jumping off the lift to the Undead Parish near the bottom, climbing the tower, and resting in the nest to be transported back to the Asylum.
- 2Kill the Torch Hollows encountered on the way down.
- 3Run through the small door in the boss room and proceed up the path to find a Black Knight. Defeat it to obtain a Red Titanite Chunk.
- 4Continue onwards to find Oscar, who has now gone Hollow. Defeat him to receive the Crest Shield.
- 5Make your way to the Bonfire before the boss room. Enter the room and ensure you pass over the green-looking stones; the floor will crumble, leading you to a boss arena. Heal immediately upon landing.
- 6BOSS: Stray Demon
- 7After defeating the Stray Demon, climb the ladder in the corner to exit the room. You will find yourself back where your journey began, with a Black Knight near your cell. Defeat this Black Knight to receive another Red Titanite Chunk.
- 8Inside your cell, you will find the Peculiar Doll, which is necessary to access the giant painting in Anor Londo.
- 9Make your way back to Firelink Shrine. Before reaching the Crow's nest, visit Snuggly. Trade the Rubbish item (picked up at the start of the game) by dropping it in the center of the nest. Quit and reload the game to find your Rubbish has been transformed into a Titanite Chunk.
- 10Return to Firelink Shrine to level up to level 57 with 13 Intelligence.
Tips
- The Crest Shield offers 80% protection against AoE (Area of Effect) attacks, which can be a lifesaver if you are caught in an explosion.
- When fighting the Stray Demon, staying behind it is generally the safest position, as it protects you from most of its hammer attacks and frontal AoE blasts.
- Be wary of the Stray Demon's jump attack where it leaps away and follows up with two slams. Maintain distance when it performs this move.
- The arena size can make it difficult to consistently stay behind the Stray Demon, but the boss is relatively slow.
- If the Stray Demon jumps into the air and turns around, it is safer to run away and reposition yourself behind it.
- The strategy for the Stray Demon is very similar to the Asylum Demon, with the main differences being its larger size, the occasional magic AoE damage on its attacks, and the double hammer slam after jumping away.
- From Oscar: Crest Shield
- From Stray Demon: Homeward Bone, Humanity, Titanite Slab
- From Black Knight near cell: Red Titanite Chunk
