Navigate the Chasm of the Abyss in Dark Souls Remastered. Find items like Dark Bead and Cleansing Greatshield, defeat Humanity Phantoms, and prepare for the final DLC boss, Manus.
Walkthrough
- 1From the Township Dungeon Bonfire, head into the Abyss. Kindle the Bonfire if desired.
- 2Follow the path to the left to find a Crystal Lizard, dropping Twinkling Titanite x2.
- 3Beware of Bloatheads hiding in the dark at the back of this area. Deal with them one at a time. The Ring of Fog can be helpful.
- 4Next to a Sorcerer, collect the Dark Bead.
- 5Follow the wall to the right and locate the blue Prism Stone.
- 6Head down and follow the narrow path to the right above the darkness.
- 7At the end of this path, to the left, is an illusory floor that will disappear when walked upon. Follow the path to find Alvina and a new enemy type.
- 8Continue along the path, defeating Humanity Phantoms.
- 9To the left, find a ruin with an elevator (a shortcut to Artorias on the way to Kalameet).
- 10Just left of the ruin, find an illusory wall on the back wall. Behind it are Phantoms and Sif. After defeating the Phantoms, Sif will disappear, leaving the Cleansing Greatshield.
- 11Locate the orange Prism Stone outside the illusory wall and head down the ramp.
- 12Go left and down at the green Prism Stone to find more Phantoms. At the end of this area, to the right, is the Black Flame.
- 13Return to the right of the green Prism Stone, then left further up. At the very end, guarded by a Sorcerer, is Humanity.
- 14Drop down where the Phantoms were. To the left is another ledge below. Behind you at the edge of this ledge is the Help Me! Carving.
- 15Roll off the end of this ledge to land on an even lower ledge, back by the Black Flame.
- 16Return to the green Prism Stone and drop down again. By the three Prism Stones, walk down the broken pillar. Directly underneath it at the end is Twin Humanities.
- 17Follow the right-hand wall to find a tunnel going further right where the wall turns left. At the very end is a White Titanite Slab.
- 18Go down from the green Prism Stone and run to the bottom to reach the fog wall.
- 19Opposite the fog wall is a Soul of a Hero. Enter the fog wall to face Manus, Father of the Abyss.
Tips
- Humanity Phantoms look like Humanity and deal magic damage on contact. They are the greatest source of Humanity in the game due to high drop rates (Humanity, Twin Humanities). Manage large groups carefully.
- The Silver Pendant can negate damage from two of Manus' three magic orb attacks if timed correctly. Block fast orbs directly at you.
- Sif can be summoned to help in the Manus fight if rescued from the illusory wall. Sif acts as a distraction.
- Manus has heavy-hitting melee attacks (sweeps, slams, combos, jump attacks) and magic spells. Most melee attacks can be blocked, but dodging is often preferable.
- The six-hit combo from Manus is particularly dangerous. The final hit is avoidable.
- Manus has the most health of any boss in the game. Healing between attacks can be difficult due to Manus' aggression.
BOSS: Manus, Father of the Abyss
Stats / Weaknesses:
- Manus has a very large health pool, the most of any boss in the game.
- Vulnerable to magic damage.
- Resistant to dark and bleed.
Phases:
- Phase 1: Manus uses a variety of melee attacks and his magic spells.
- Phase 2: Manus becomes more aggressive, his attacks may have slightly altered timings, and he may use his magic more frequently. (Note: The source text doesn't explicitly detail distinct phases with HP thresholds, but his aggression increases.)
Strategy:
- Melee Attacks: Manus has wide sweeps, slams, and combos (3-hit and 6-hit). Dodge or block these. The jump attack can push you back if blocked. The 6-hit combo is dangerous; block or dodge, and avoid the final hit.
- Dark Magic: Manus casts black orbs. The Silver Pendant can negate damage from two of the three orb types if timed. Block fast orbs aimed directly at you.
- Summoning: If Sif was rescued, they will appear as a summon sign in the arena, serving as a distraction.
- Healing: Manus' aggression makes healing difficult. Find openings carefully.
- Overall: Manage aggression, balance dodging and blocking, and use the Silver Pendant for magic. Manus is tough but manageable with careful execution.
