Learn about Clash Royale Unit and Troop cards, their stats, pros, cons, and ratings for ladder and tournament play. Master your deck strategy.

These cards are probably the most important cards used to do most things in the battle and are vital for a victory. Troops move and attack, some troop cards target specific things while others attack anything they come across which is where some strategy comes into the game. Unit cards when deployed take an amount of time to spawn depending on the card, while in the deployment process the unit is vulnerable to being attacked without being able to defend itself. Troop cards can only be deployed in green area on the battlefield. There are also three sub-divisions of this group of cards that include Troops that have melee attack, Troops that have a ranged attack and Troops that fly (you could also say there are four sub-divisions of cards by counting cards that only target buildings). Now let's take a closer look at the cards we can find in the game...

CARD RATINGS

The card rating system is 1 - 5 for 1v1 ladder play, the rating is based off of current usage in stats Royale and I may also add on a bit less or more for my own personal experiences with the card. After that I give it my own ranking out of 10 that includes the ladder ranking along with the ranking out of 5 that I give it personally.

  • 1 - Bad
  • 2 - Poor
  • 3 - Okay
  • 4 - Good
  • 5 - Very good

In my opinion cards with a 15% or more ladder usage rate are classed in the meta for that arena. Cards lower than that usage I class as not being in the current meta.

ARENA CARD RATING

I have decided to go with a different rating for tournament usage of cards due to how wild tournament is and how quickly it can change. The rating will use letters from A being to best to F being the worst and this is based on picking them for usage in your deck for tournament play, these ratings are meant for normal Challenge/Tournament play and not Special Challenges, although this could sometimes help with normal Draft special challenges.

  • A - Normally the best pick
  • B - Normally a great pick
  • C - Normally a good pick
  • D - Normally a intermediate pick
  • E - Normally a bad pick
  • F - Normally Always an awful pick

Keep in mind that these will be updated as the game changes and is mostly based off my own experiences and so there is quite a bit of opinion to it and not much fact, it is just a basis to help. Of course your own judgement and how you play is fine as long as it works for you.

Training Arena - Troop cards

Troops

The Training Arena sports 10 Troop cards (three Commons, three Rares and four Epics) that can be obtained from here on out.

Knight

The Knight is a Common Troop card that can be earned from the Training Arena (you should already have it when you start), he is a brave Knight armed with a sword making him a melee ground troop. He is able to neutralize weak threats on the field with his medium attack and health, they are also good for blocking tougher troops advances. Knights are only able to target ground Troops and buildings.

  • Pros
    • Good for blocking enemy Troops.
    • Good for neutralizing un-supported weak threats.
    • Good support troop.
    • Fairly cheap to deploy
  • Cons
    • Can easily be taken down by swarm enemies like Skeleton armies.
    • Is vulnerable to air Troops.
    • If un-supported stronger Troops like Mini P.E.K.K.A's can make short work of Knights.

My usefulness rating: Ladder (4/5) Tournament grade: B

My own ranking: (9/10)

What is this troop currently used for?: Blocking troops such as Princes. Taking on weaker troops.

Good Counters: Opposing Knight, Mini PEKKA, Musketeer, Skeleton Army, Goblins, Minions, Cannon, Tesla, Ice Wizard (at tower), Mega Minion, Guards and Lumberjack.

SPECIAL INFO
- Ranks as the 14th most used card as of 23rd July

Archers

The Archers are a common ranged ground troop card in the game which you should get from the game as soon as you start. The card deploys two female archers making them a ranged ground troop. They have low health so it is better to use Archers as a support/defense troop to back up more tougher troops as Archers alone can be killed easily, as Archers are ranged they can attack both Air and Ground troops. The Archers are also good at defending from air attacks such as Minions.

  • Pros
    • Great support troops
    • With support are able to take down flying troops like Baby Dragons and Minions.
    • They deploy in twos!
    • Fairly cheap to deploy
  • Cons
    • Have low health so will die quickly without back up.
    • Purely only good for support purposes.

My usefulness rating: Ladder (3/5) Tournament grade: C

My own ranking: (6/10)

What are they currently used for?: Backing up a push and air defense.

Good counters: Zap(near tower or to help air), Arrows, Musketeer, Baby Dragon(close), Minions(close), Poison(when with other good Poison targets), The Log(Only if with other targets), Miner, Princess, Guards, Mega Minion(close) or you can let your crown tower finish them if they're alone.

Bomber

This skeleton with a bomb is a common troop card you should already get when you first start the game. It throws bombs at enemies that deal explosive damage to them and surrounding enemies making him a ranged AoE (Area of Affect) ground troop. Although ranged he is unable to attack air troops so remains vulnerable to them, but the Bomber is great for taking on groups of weak enemies such as Skeleton armies, Goblins etc. The Bomber can also deal acceptable damage to stronger troops and the opponents towers, but its low health lets it down, at higher levels it can be very effective at taking on Barbarians.

  • Pros
    • Explosive AoE ranged damage great for decimating groups of weak ground troops.
    • Even good at taking on Barbarian groups.
    • Good support troop.
    • Fairly cheap to deploy
  • Cons
    • Has low health so will die quickly to tougher troops without back up.
    • Vulnerable to air troops.

My usefulness rating: Ladder (2/5) Tournament grade: D
