Discover the different card rarities in Clash Royale: Common, Rare, Epic, and Legendary. Learn how to obtain, upgrade, and use each type effectively in battle.

Cards are essential for playing Clash Royale, earned from chests and upgraded using gold and Gems. Upgrading cards also increases your in-game King level. There are currently 64 obtainable cards, with more expected. Gold can be used to purchase cards or upgrade points in the in-game store, which typically offers three to six cards that change periodically. Sundays are known as 'Epic Sundays' in the store, featuring more Epic cards. Legendary cards only appear in the store when you reach Legendary Arena (Arena 10) or higher.

Card Rarities

Card rarities determine how difficult they are to obtain, their general power level, and their upgrade costs. Higher rarity cards are more expensive to upgrade and yield fewer upgrade points.

  • Common (Blue): Very easy to obtain, costing 3 gold in the store. Max level is 13. Can be requested and donated in Clans.
  • Rare (Orange): Not too difficult to obtain, costing 40 gold in the store. Max level is 11. Can be requested and donated in Clans, but with limitations.
  • Epic (Purple): Challenging to obtain, costing 1,000 gold in the store. Most available on Sundays. Max level is 8. Can only be requested and donated in Clans on Sundays ('Epic Sunday'), when more Epics and cards are available in the shop. An Epic Chest contains only Epic cards and can be bought during special offers or won from battles.
  • Legendary (Multi-colored): Incredibly rare, with special portraits. They have potent special abilities but are very expensive to upgrade (5,000 gold for level 2). They appear in the store only in Hog Mountain Arena (Arena 10) or higher, costing 40,000 gold to buy. Max level is 5. Cannot be requested or donated in Clans. A Legendary Chest contains one Legendary card and can be bought with Gems during special offers or won from battles.

Note on Mirror Spell: The Mirror spell can upgrade troops/spells one level above their own rarity's max. This allows for level 14 Commons, level 12 Rares, level 9 Epics, and level 6 Legendaries under specific conditions, though this may have been updated.

In addition to rarities, cards are categorized into three main groups: Troops, Buildings, and Spells.
