Explore Civilization VI's core resources: Coats, Cotton, Crosses, Education, Food, Fur, Guns, Horses, and Liberty Bells. Learn how each impacts your colony's growth and independence.
This guide section covers various resources and their production methods in Civilization VI, detailing how each contributes to your colony's development and economy.
Coats: Produced by Fur Trader's House (3/Citizen), Fur Trader's Shop (6/Citizen), and Coats Factory (6/Citizen). Coats Factory also provides +50% Cloth Production. Coats have a low selling threshold and drop in price quickly when sent to Europe in large quantities. Cloth sells better, followed by Rum, then Cigars.
Cotton: A crop that doesn't sell for much in Europe (3-5 Gold). It's often more profitable to import cotton, process it into cloth in colonies, and then ship the cloth back.
Crosses: Generated by Churches (+3/Citizen) and Cathedrals (+6/Citizen). Crosses are crucial for immigration, indicated by a bar on the Europe Screen. Generating more Crosses increases the number of immigrants available to be shipped to colonies.
Education: Produced by Schoolhouses (+3/Citizen), Colleges (+6/Citizen), and Universities (+12/Citizen). Colonists (Free Colonists, Servants, Criminals, Natives) sent to these buildings generate Education Points. Once enough points are accumulated, they can be assigned expert jobs (e.g., Farmer, Fisherman). Other colonist types generate points at a lower rate.
Food: Essential for colonist survival, with each colonist consuming 2 food per turn. Failure to meet food needs results in starvation. Excess food can be exported to Europe for low prices (around 1 Gold) or used to produce Horses. Stored food also leads to the birth of new colonists.
Fur: A valuable raw resource that generally sells better than crops (5-7 Gold). While conversion to Coats is possible, Coats are not highly profitable. Excess fur can be used for coat production in other colonies or shipped back.
Guns: Produced in Armouries (3/Citizen), Magazines (6/Citizen), and Arsenals (6/Citizen). Arsenals also provide +50% Guns Production. Guns require 1 tool per gun to produce. Selling guns to Europe is not recommended due to their low selling price (2-3 Gold) and the need to arm your own troops.
Horses: Generated from food (2 food per horse). Produced in Stables (2/Citizen) and Horse Pastures (2/Citizen), with Horse Pastures providing +100% Horse Production. Ranches generate +4 Horses per Citizen. While horses sell for about 3 Gold in Europe, they are more valuable for producing Dragoons to defend colonies.
Liberty Bells: Generated in Town Halls (3/Citizen). Printing Presses provide +50% Liberty Bells Generated, and Newspapers provide +100%. Liberty Bells are essential for colonies to declare independence from the Crown and can increase overall colony production. Low Liberty Bell generation can lead to citizens becoming Tories.
