Explore Civilization VI resources like Lumber, Ore, Silver, Sugar, Tobacco, and Tools. Learn their production, uses, and trade values.

Lumber is an inexpensive resource to sell but is vital for producing Production Hammers. Carpenters require Lumber to create Hammers, with no other components needed.

Ore has a trading price equal to or higher than products made from it. If you lack the colonial power to manufacture Ore into Tools or Guns, ship it back. Otherwise, use Ore to craft Tools, which are necessary for Production Hammers and, more importantly, Guns.

Production Hammers are produced from Lumber at a one-to-one ratio. Carpenter's Shops yield 3 Hammers per Citizen, while Lumber Mills produce 6 Hammers per Citizen. These Hammers are essential for constructing buildings, training units, and earning Founding Father points. Ensuring colonies have a steady Lumber source is key for self-sufficiency and producing valuable empire assets.

Rum is the second most stable manufactured good. Rum Distiller's Houses produce 3 Rum per Citizen, Rum Distilleries produce 6 Rum per Citizen, and Rum Factories also produce 6 Rum per Citizen, with an additional +50% Rum Production bonus. Rum is a good seller due to the difficulty in acquiring the necessary Sugar.

Silver is the most valuable product, mined in Mountains at extremely low levels, yielding approximately 2 per turn, potentially more with luck. Silver sells for about 19 per unit but has a high dropping rate when sold in large quantities. Its value can drop significantly, potentially leveling out around 7-9.

Sugar is found in tropical areas and is valuable for producing Rum. Sugar generally sells for more than other crops like Tobacco and Cotton because it takes longer to generate the same amount. It is a stable crop to sell back to Europe or use for Rum production.

Tobacco, despite being a cash crop, does not sell for a high price. It should almost always be used to make Cigars, which are a very stable manufactured product. Dedicate extra cities to process all available Tobacco.

Tools are the most important good after food. They are needed for clearing forests, crafting roads, and building impressive structures. Tools are also useful for producing Guns. Blacksmith's Houses produce 3 Tools per Citizen, Blacksmith's Shops produce 6 Tools per Citizen, and Ironworks produce 6 Tools per Citizen, with an additional +50% Tools Production bonus. Tools have the same selling price as Guns, which is often the same as Ore, making it advisable to keep Tools rather than ship them back.

Trade Goods are purchased from Europe for trading with natives. While initially cheap to convert into more valuable items, relying on selling Guns or Horses to natives is more sustainable in the long run.

Tips
  • Prioritize securing a source of Sugar for consistent Rum production.
  • Consider the diminishing returns when selling large quantities of Silver.
  • Use Ore to produce Tools and Guns rather than selling raw Ore if possible.
  • Ensure sufficient Lumber is available for consistent Hammer production to build and expand colonies.
  • Process all Tobacco into Cigars for a stable manufactured product.
