Learn how to defeat Tinder Snowflake in Borderlands 2's Mercenary Day DLC. This guide covers his attacks, weaknesses, and the best strategy for victory.
Alright, so you've made it to the end of the Mercenary Day holiday event, and it's time to face off against the big guy himself: Tinder Snowflake. He can be a real pain if you're not ready for him, but don't worry, I've got your back. We'll get you through this!
Stats / Weaknesses:
- Tinder Snowflake — Critical hits on his head deal significantly more damage. He's invincible when burrowed underground.
Phases:
- Phase 1: Burrow and Attack
Snowflake will burrow underground, much like a Thresher. You can't hurt him while he's down there, and he moves fast. Keep an eye out for where he's about to pop up. He'll often chase you before surfacing to deal damage. - Phase 2: Snowball Barrage
He'll toss large snowballs at you. These deal damage and, importantly, spawn smaller snowmen. He also has a move where he hits a snowball like a golf ball with his cane – this doesn't seem to spawn enemies. - Phase 3: Candy Cane and Frost
Snowflake can throw his candy cane into the ground, causing it to explode. He also has a nasty frost breath attack that can cover a wide area. - Phase 4: Cane Slam
He'll swing his cane around and then slam it on the ground, creating a shockwave that can launch you into the air.
Strategy:
- The Cave is Your Friend: Seriously, the best spot to hang out is the little cave on the left side of the arena, right where you dropped in. Most of his attacks won't reach you in there. The only one that might is his frost breath, so be ready to move a bit if he uses that.
- Aim for the Head: Snowflake's head is his weak spot. When he pops up or is otherwise exposed, unload your best weapons on his noggin. It's a critical hit spot, so you'll melt him faster than ice cream in a supernova.
- Don't Kill the Little Guys: When Snowflake spawns those smaller snowmen, don't just mow them down immediately. If you go down, these little guys are your lifeline for a Second Wind. Just be aware that Snowflake sometimes seems to use his frost breath attack when you're downed, making it tricky to get that revive.
- Finish Him Off: Once you've finally whittled down his health, he'll go down. But wait! You need to grab his hat to finish the job. Don't leave without it.
- Loot the Train: After you've dealt with Snowflake and grabbed his hat, Marcus will let you raid his train. Head back to town and open up the train cars – there's tons of good loot in there, so grab whatever you want. Finally, talk to Timothy to wrap up the mission.
