Alright, before we dive headfirst into the main story of Assassin's Creed Rogue, let's get you familiar with the folks you'll be running into. Knowing who's who and how they fight will make a huge difference, so pay attention to this quick rundown. We'll cover the basic enemy types you'll encounter all over the North Atlantic.

There are a few different kinds of enemies, and they all have their own little quirks. Here's the breakdown:

• Regulars: These are your standard guards. They don't have much armor, so a well-timed counter-kill is usually all it takes to put them down. They often patrol in groups, so be ready for that.
• Snipers: You'll spot these guys on rooftops or in towers, armed with rifles. They'll start taking potshots at you once they spot Shay. Keep an eye on the icon above their heads – when it fills up, they're about to shoot. You can take them down like regular guards, but you'll need to get to them quickly before they get a clear shot.
• Agile: These look like regular guards, but they often wear wigs and are armed with knives. They're more aggressive and their attacks come in quick, hard-to-counter bursts. While you can counter and kill them like regulars, it's a bit trickier due to their speed.

• Captains: Look for the fancy triangular, feathered hats. These guys are skilled swordsmen and can deflect your counter-attacks. They're usually immune to kill chains, guard breaks, and counter-melee attacks. Your best bet is to counter and disarm them, or if you want to save yourself some trouble, shoot them from a distance or sneak up for an assassination.
• Brutes: These are the big lads wielding axes. They can take a beating and are immune to kill chains and instant counter-kills. To take them down, you'll need to use a guard break to stagger them, then follow up with regular attacks.
• Stalkers: These are a new type of enemy, basically assassins. They love to hide in stalking zones or other sneaky spots and will surprise you if you get too close. The good news is you'll hear a whispering sound when they're near. Using Eagle Vision at that point will let you pinpoint their location. Counter-killing them is ideal, but if you spot them before they attack, feel free to use any method you like to take them out.
