Understanding Mission Completion Rewards

Upon successfully completing any mission, you'll receive a reward chest. The quality of this chest is determined by several factors:

• Difficulty Level: Higher difficulties (Veteran, Champion, Legend, Cataclysm) yield significantly better chests, offering higher power level items and rarer qualities (Exotic, Veteran).
• Grimoires Collected: Each Grimoire carried to the mission's end increases the quality of your reward chest. There are typically two Grimoires per mission. Be warned: carrying a Grimoire reduces your maximum health by a percentage, making the mission more challenging.
• Tombs Collected: Similar to Grimoires, each Tome carried to the mission's end also improves your reward chest. Tomes take up a healing slot, meaning you sacrifice a healing item for a better reward. There are usually three Tomes per mission.
• Quick Play Bonus: Playing missions via the Quick Play option grants a small bonus to your reward chest quality. This is a great way to earn extra loot while experiencing several maps.

The highest possible reward tier is a Legendary Chest (often referred to as an "Emperor's Vault" on Legend difficulty), which guarantees at least one Veteran item and a high chance for other rare loot. To achieve this, you generally need to complete a mission on Legend or Cataclysm difficulty with all Grimoires and Tomes collected.

Hidden Chests & Loot Opportunities

Beyond the end-of-mission rewards, each map contains several hidden loot opportunities that can provide crafting materials, potions, bombs, and even occasional gear. These are often found off the main path and require keen observation or knowledge of the map layouts.

Specific Loot Locations & Strategies:

• The Horn of Magnus:
  • Tome 1: After the first horde event in the marketplace, look for a small alleyway to the left with a wooden barricade. Break it to find the Tome.
  • Grimoire 1: Inside the burning building where you first encounter the Rat Ogre. It's on a shelf on the upper floor.
  • Tome 2: After dropping down from the rooftops into a courtyard, look for a small wooden shed or alcove to the right.
  • Grimoire 2: Near the end, before entering the final building where you blow the horn. Look for a precarious wooden beam leading to a small platform.
  • Tome 3: In the final area, on a wooden platform overlooking the horn itself. You'll need to jump to reach it.
  • Hidden Cache: In the sewers section, after the first drop, look for a breakable wall or a small crawl space to the side. Often contains a healing draught or bomb.
• Against the Grain:
  • Tome 1: In the first barn, on a hay bale near the entrance.
  • Grimoire 1: After the first open field, inside a small, dilapidated shack to the left.
  • Tome 2: In the second barn, on a wooden platform accessible by jumping from a nearby stack of crates.
  • Grimoire 2: Near the end, just before the final gauntlet, look for a small cave entrance off the main path.
  • Tome 3: In the final area, on a wooden platform overlooking the grain silo.
  • Resource Stash: Throughout the fields, keep an eye out for small wooden carts or overturned barrels; these often contain crafting dusts.
• Athel Yenlui:
  • Tome 1: In the initial forest path, look for a fallen tree that forms a bridge over a small ravine. The Tome is on the other side.
  • Grimoire 1: After the first elven ruins, inside a small, partially collapsed structure.
  • Tome 2: In the section with the large, open elven courtyard, look for a small alcove or a climbable wall leading to a hidden ledge.
  • Grimoire 2: Near the end, after the descent into the underground section, look for a hidden path behind a waterfall or a breakable wall.
  • Tome 3: In the final area, on a high ledge overlooking the ritual site.
  • Supply Crates: Many of the elven ruins contain small, ornate chests that can be opened for potions or bombs.

General Tips for Finding Hidden Loot:

• Listen for the "Shimmer": Sometimes, hidden items emit a faint, almost imperceptible shimmering sound.
• Look for Alternate Paths: If the main path seems too straightforward, there's likely a detour leading to a secret.
• Break Everything: Vases, barrels, crates – many destructible objects can hide crafting materials or even small coin pouches.
