First things first: Find the folder. You'll need to dig into your game files to find the 'Portraits' folder. The default path is usually something like: Local Disk (C:) > Users > PC Name > AppData > LocalLow > Owlcat Games > Warhammer 40000 Rogue Trader. Once you're in the 'Portraits' folder, create a new folder inside it and name it 0001. This is where your custom images will live.

Now, let's talk sizes. Rogue Trader uses three different portrait sizes for various UI elements: a full-length one for your character screen, a medium one for stats and inventory, and a small one for the turn order and dialogue. You'll need to prepare three PNG files and name them exactly:

• Fulllength
• Medium
• Small

These need to be placed in that 0001 folder you created. Here are the required dimensions:

Pro-tip: The game doesn't just scale down the same image. The 'Fulllength' shows your whole character, 'Medium' is usually waist-up, and 'Small' is a headshot. Cropping your images to match these focus areas will make them look much more natural in-game. It's not strictly required, but it's a nice touch!

Getting it into the game is the easy part. Once you've got your three PNGs cropped, named correctly, and placed in the 0001 folder, just boot up Rogue Trader. When you're creating a new character or hiring a mercenary, head over to the 'Appearance' menu, then select 'Portraits', and finally 'Custom'. If you've done everything right, your 'Small' portrait should pop up in one of the available slots. Just click on it, and boom – you've got your custom portrait ready to go!

Heads up: The game was updated in version 1.3.2.28 to allow changing your appearance at any time, including portraits. So, you don't have to wait until character creation if you want to switch things up later!
