Complete Vampyr walkthrough for the 'Give a Dog a Bad Name' quest. Includes steps for the Widow in Distress investigation, Dorothy Crane boss fight, sewer exploration, and confronting Sean Hampton.
Before continuing with the main quest, there are new conversations available with Lady Ashbury and Dr. Swansea. Milton Hooks now sells Good Trigger Parts (but only one at a time). You may want to rest at this point since you'll probably have a lot of accumulated XP, particularly if you completed the investigations in the Docks. For reference, I had over 5800XP at this point. I took two points in Body Condition, a point in Physical Prowess and five points in Cartridge Bag bringing me to level 17. There are bosses coming up for whom firearms will be very effective and being able to bring more dakka to the fight is a good thing.
After sleeping, a bunch of people around the hospital will fall ill. You may want to take the time to synthesise treatments for them - it's busywork but treating illness is a source of XP.
It's a few minutes out of your way, but you may want to pay a visit to Stonebridge Cemetery so that you can complete the Widow in Distress investigation. Hsiao Shun has moved elsewhere in the cemetery.
Go to her location and speak to her to unlock her first hint.
Select "Your life in London?" / "About your husband's death?" to unlock a second hint. This opens up a new topic "Why are you blaming yourself?", unlocking a third hint. Switch to "Personal questions" / "I let my sister Mary die" after which you can select "You should go home now". The following night, Hsiao Shun will relocate to Whitechapel which is a bit more convenient than here. You will also complete the investigation, earning 100XP.
Back in Whitechapel, Barrett Lewis will have expanded his stock greatly and also sells Good Trigger Parts in pairs. With these, you should have enough parts to upgrade a second firearm to Remarkable.
What Became of Dorothy Crane
If you charmed Dorothy at the end of the Blackout in Whitechapel quest, there's something waiting for you in the dispensary behind Darius Petrescu's house.
Kill the Skals on the ground floor and head upstairs. Dorothy Crane has become a level 24 Skal.
You will receive 1000XP and a Small Key for defeating her. Get out of her way because she explodes in a poisonous cloud. The key unlocks the nearby trunk which contains a bunch of treatments and medical ingredients.
Make the long trek back to the Turquoise Turtle and buy more Good Trigger Parts from Edwina Cox. Continue due west from the pub and you will find Archer Woodbead wandering around.
Select "Your life in London?" / "About this part of town?" / "What about the gangs?" to learn his second hint. Select "Personal questions" / "Tell me about the Guard of Priwen?" to unlock his final hint.
Explore the sewers
Cross over to the Western Docks, head down to the shoreline and make your way west. Kill the Priwen guards by the locked gate and use the key that Sean gave you to go through.
Follow the tunnel, go down the stairs and enter a new tunnel. There's a locked gate to your right so carry on to a control room. There's a mild puzzle to solve. Look for the console with a valve on either side. Turn the one on the left and dash across to the newly opened tunnel.
Once there, go into the other water tunnel and break the barrels.
Return to the valves and turn the one on the left and the one on the right to cut off the flow of water. Backtrack a short distance and interact with the control panel to open another water gate in front of you.
Go past the valves, down the stairs and into the tunnel you just opened up. The path is long but linear. When you find rats, prepare yourself for a boss fight. You'll be fighting a bit of a melee beast, so equip your best pistol (which should, hopefully, be a Remarkable Parabellum with three damage upgrades) to allow you to keep your distance.
Continue through the tunnel until you trigger a scene and a battle against Fergal, the massive dude who threatened you back in Chapter 2.
Dodge his attacks (and the attacks of any shadows he summons) and empty your pistol into him. When you run out of bullets, replace your pistol with your shotgun (which hopefully should be a Remarkable Lupara with three damage upgrades) and finish him off. He's actually quite easy. He drops common upgrade parts when he dies and you will unlock the Defeat the beast trophy.
There's only one exit from the boss room, the unlocked gate at the top right. Follow the tunnel until it opens up. At this point, you can either teleport to a ledge to continue or follow the tunnel round (which yields some minor loot).
Continue up some steps and you'll come across a colony of Skals. You will meet the Skal leader, Old Bridget. Answer her however you please. You can find out more about Fergal and the Ascalon Club if you like. Select "It is you that Sean sent me to find" to move the conversation forward. She will tell you to speak to Harriet Jones.
Hide and Seek
You're pretty close to where Rodney Grader is hiding out so activate his investigation. Go to the end of the hallway and down the stairs. Turn right at the bottom and right into a tunnel. You'll see Rodney a short distance ahead.
Speak to him and he'll dismiss you. Since you read the letter in Enid Gillingham's house, you can speak to him again.
Do not call him a coward! Instead, select "You can't stay here forever" to unlock another hint and convince him to return to the Docks, earning you 100XP.
Head back up the stairs to the Sewer Skals Territory and go through the door in front of you. Search a table on your left for a piece of lore, Supremacy of Ekons (16/30).
Loot the various containers and speak to Harriet Jones. Answer her question however you please.
Go back to Sean Hampton's shelter and confront him
You will find Old Bridget waiting for you outside Harriet Jones's room and you can question her further. When you've finished speaking, head up the nearby stairs and turn left. Head through the nearby doorway and you'll see a Hideout entrance in front of you.
