Valkyrie Profile is one of the most unique RPGs ever made, featuring a blend of real-time and turn-based combat, 2-D platforming, and a story inspired by Norse Mythology. This guide aims to explore every aspect of the game across its three distinct modes. While story details are omitted, be aware that numerous spoilers regarding puzzles and character recruitment are present. Proceed with caution if you prefer to discover these elements organically.

Upon starting the game, you'll encounter three difficulty modes: Easy, Normal, and Hard. Each mode offers varying experience gains from enemies, different dungeon layouts, and an increasing number of available characters in harder difficulties. Hard mode is primarily characterized by its length and unique dungeons with more challenging puzzles, rather than extreme difficulty. Easy mode is generally not recommended, as Normal mode provides a more complete experience. Notably, the end-game can be more challenging in Easy mode due to limitations in acquiring powerful weapons.

The walkthroughs may initially seem confusing. They indicate the required exit direction for each room. 'Right' signifies exiting through the right side of the room. 'Up' refers to the 'To the Rear' prompt, and 'Down' refers to the 'To the Front' prompt. If multiple exits are available on a side, specific clarification will be provided. 'Up and to the right' means to move to the upper portion of the screen before exiting to the right, not to exit upwards then right. This will become clearer as you play. Treasure chests are often not explicitly located; if a listed treasure is not visible, check behind scenery or on high ledges. You can use the X button to pick up and carry hidden chests, setting them down with the circle button for easier opening. Artifacts marked with an asterisk (*) are recommended to keep.

It is important to note that all artifacts can be retained without penalty, provided at least one character is transferred each chapter.
