Learn about unique knights in The Settlers, including Marcus, Alandra, Elias, Kestral, and Hakim, and their abilities.

Knights can be ordered to move next to a ruin (destroyed building with a hand icon) to reveal a button. Pressing this button summons a horse-drawn cart that carries gold to your castle. The amount of gold ranges from 80-400, depending on the ruin explored.

Knights are also required to interact with certain quest-related events, such as breaking someone out of prison or digging a water well. This interaction is performed the same way as exploring ruins.

All knights are essentially immortal. They are exceptional fighters, and their strength is dictated by your city's (settlement's) morale. Low morale means low strength, and high morale means high strength. If a knight falls in battle, they are magically moved to the castle to heal. Once healed, they reappear at the castle, ready to return to the wilderness.

Knights do not require food, clothing, or supplies. They are your fastest unit and, due to their regenerative abilities, make excellent early spies until thieves can be produced.

Each knight has one passive ability that is always active and provides a boost to the village. Each knight also has an active ability that requires a button press, usually affects a small radius around the knight, and needs time to recharge after each use.

MARCUS

Marcus is one of your initial knights, known as the Lord of Chivalry.

  • Passive Ability: Reduces the gold cost to recruit new soldiers.
  • Active Ability: Replenishes troop torches without being near a castle or outpost.

Marcus' passive ability is a minor benefit, as gold should not be a major issue if your settlement is built well. His active ability can be useful for replenishing torches, saving a small amount of time, but troops' torches replenish upon capturing an enemy outpost anyway.

ALANDRA

Alandra is also one of your initial knights, known as the Lady of Healing.

  • Passive Ability: Increases gold received from sermon collections by 20%.
  • Active Ability: Heals sick settlers in the village market place.

Alandra's passive ability offers a small boost to sermon income, but holding a sermon stops settlers from working. Her active ability is largely worthless for the first half of the game, as settlers only get sick when the population is high or a plague is activated, by which time medicine can be produced or purchased.

ELIAS

Elias is available starting with Map number 3, known as the Lord of Trade.

  • Passive Ability: Increases income from selling goods to allies and decreases the cost of purchasing.
  • Active Ability: Feeds hungry striking settlers at your town square.

Elias' passive ability is mostly worthless, as you won't need the money from selling excess stock by the time you have enough, and purchases are infrequent. His active ability might be useful on one or two difficult maps, but efficient settlement design should prevent striking settlers and famine.

KESTRAL

Kestral becomes available on map 4, known as the Lady of Plunder.

  • Passive Ability: Increases the amount of taxes collected without negative effects.
  • Active Ability: Steals the full income of a building without any negative effects.

Kestral's abilities focus on money. Her passive ability can be a boon for a starting city, increasing growth speed. Her active ability is a variation of her passive ability. Her skills become less useful as the city grows, but getting started fast is important on many maps.

HAKIM

Hakim is available on map 5, known as the Lord of Wisdom.

  • Passive Ability: Allows you to upgrade any building for fewer resources.
  • Active Ability: Causes a nearby enemy battalion to convert to your side permanently.

Hakim's passive ability to upgrade buildings for fewer resources can significantly boost a new settlement's growth. His active ability allows for the permanent conversion of enemy units.
