Jude Mathis is one of the two protagonists in Tales of Xillia. The game allows players to choose between following Jude's story or Milla Maxwell's, with certain scenes and character interactions varying based on the selection.

Jude is an aspiring medical student in Fennmont, the capital of Rashugal. His journey begins when he investigates the disappearance of his supervisor, Professor Haus, at the Laforte Research Center. There, he encounters Milla Maxwell, who is investigating the mysterious deaths of spirits. Together, they uncover a horrifying discovery: a weapon called the Lance of Kresnik, which drains mana from people, including Professor Haus, leading to their deaths.

After Haus's warning and subsequent death, Jude decides to assist Milla in her investigation within the facility. Their path leads them to discover the Lance of Kresnik, a massive weapon powered by spyrix technology, which is responsible for the mana depletion and deaths.
