Complete Baction walkthrough for Tales of Vesperia, including the Magic Lantern side quest and Schwann boss fight strategy.
- 1Open the chest near you for a Pineapple Gel.
- 2To the north, slightly hidden behind a bush, is a chest containing a Life Bottle.
- 3Head inside the building.
- 4Open the chest to the left for a Dark Bottle and the one at the north for a Lemon Gel.
- 5Descend the ladder to another screen.
- 6From the ladder, go up for a scene.
- 7After the scene, go up another room to find a chest containing a Twinkle Star.
- 8Go down two rooms back to the ladder.
- 9From here, go left two rooms and open the chest at the south for a Panacea Bottle.
- 10Go left two more rooms and up to another to find a room containing a Holy Bottle and a Lemon Gel.
- 11From there, go down, right, then up to reach a room with a healing save point (a point where you can restore HP and TP).
- 12Go to the next room for a scene.
- 13After the scene, go up one more room and open a chest containing a Limit Bottle.
- 14Descend the stairs.
- 15Go down a room and open the chest in the center of the room for 8000 Gald (in-game currency).
- 16Go up, left, then down and open the chest on the left for a Wind Cape.
- 17Go down one more room and open the chest to your right for 5x Magic Lens.
- 18Examine the statue in the center of this room for a scene.
- 19After the scene, go down one room to reach a healing save point.
- 20From the save point, go down, right, then up to find a room containing a Kylin and Lottery Gel.
- 21Now go down, right, then right for a scene and a fight. You will receive Dein Nomos. This is a very, very, VERY important weapon. It contains the 'Special' skill and will allow Yuri to use his Mystic Arte (a powerful special attack). Equip it on Yuri IMMEDIATELY and start training it so that he learns this skill.
- 22Open the chest in this room for a Simple Tent.
- 23Then go right, then up to find a Limit Bottle.
- 24Now go down, left, up, then left.
- 25Open a chest for a Winvy.
- 26Then go up. Scene.
- 27After the scene, go up one more room and open the chest for a Mermaid Cloak.
- 28Now go right, then up for a Mythril Plate.
- 29Now go down then right. Open the chest in the upper right corner for a sword for a Judex.
- 30Go down one room and grab the Melange Gel at the bottom part of the room.
- 31Now go left. Remember the location of these stairs on your map (a small map displayed on the HUD (heads-up display — the on-screen icons showing health, ammo and the minimap), Heads-Up Display).
- 32Now go up the stairs. Open the chest in this new room for a Masakari Cleaver.
- 33From here, go left, then up. In this room, we have another Side Quest with a very small window.
- 34Baction Side Quest: Magic Lantern
- 35This may sound strange, but walk off a ledge here. This will activate a scene.
- 36Now go back up the stairs and fall off the ledge two more times. This will activate another scene.
- 37You will receive the Magic Lantern. Once this dungeon is cleared, this item can no longer be gotten. So get it right now.
- 38Now go back upstairs and avoid the ledges as you make your way to the end of the room.
- 39In the next room, go down the stairs.
- 40Then head up to reach a healing save point.
- 41Go up from here and open the four chests for a Lemon Gel, Panacea Bottle, 6000 Gald, and a Heal Bracelet.
- 42Then go up for a scene and a boss fight.
Boss: Schwann
Secret Mission: Knock Schwann down immediately after he uses his Mystic Arte.
Strategy: Schwann is fast, hits very hard, can stun you with his combos, and has strong spells. He mainly likes to focus on chasing down your party members and comboing them to death. The rare times he decides to cast is an ample opportunity to gang up on him and do some damage. Bring Flynn and Karol, as they both can heal. If you need even more extra healing power, use Yuri's Altered Arte, 'Guardian Field,' by having the Dein Nomos equipped and then using Crushing Eagle. Have Rita hang back and cast spells. As for Yuri, try to use an Over Limit Lv. 3 and hit Schwann with your Mystic Arte anytime you can for big damage.
If you want to accomplish the Secret Mission, you are going to have your work cut out for you. It could take many tries to get it right if you are not lucky. In order to accomplish the Secret Mission, you must knock Schwann down immediately after he uses his Mystic Arte. He will use it once and only once during the fight during his first Over Limit. The Mystic Arte will hit a small area around him, and leave him momentarily stunned afterwards. You must knock him down while he is catching his breath to accomplish the Secret Mission.
However, the time frame you have to knock Schwann down is EXTREMELY small. And to make matters worse, if you don't break his 'no stun shield,' thing, he will not fall even if you do manage to hit him in time. The best strategy to pull this off is to keep your health maxed out when he enters his first Over Limit. Then stay close to him while your allies continue to attack him. When he uses his Mystic Arte, mash the square button to do an air recovery when he hits you. This should hopefully place Yuri on his feet and in prime position to strike. Then charge towards him and use Dragon Swarm. If done quick enough, the multiple hits from Dragon Swarm will not only break that 'no stun shield' thing but proceed to knock him down too. It's by far the most effective method I've found to accomplish this Secret Mission.
If you are lucky, a scene (a non-interactive story sequence) will take over and you will have accomplished the mission. If not, you will unfortunately have to start the fight over. Good luck. You will need it.
