Navigate World 1-Castle in Super Mario Bros. 2, collect all three Star Coins, and defeat Roy Koopa with this guide.
Walkthrough
- 1In World 1-Castle, jump to grab the hanging rope overhead. Move Down on the Circle Pad to let go and cross the first lava pit while avoiding spiked blocks.
- 2Hit the blocks at the other side to get a Leaf (a power-up that allows flight).
- 3Continue along the next hanging section. Watch the pillars rise from the lava below, especially the one beneath Star Coin #1.
- 4When the pillar rises, drop down to get Star Coin #1, then jump to dry land ahead.
- 5Stun the Dry Bones (enemies that reassemble after being jumped on) and hit the blocks. Hop onto the blocks and jump again to reveal hidden ones.
- 6Jump up to a new ledge above and run left to collect another Leaf in a block.
- 7With the Leaf, run right and fly along the line of coins to obtain Star Coin #2. You do not need to grab every coin in the large rectangular formation.
- 8When you land, go through the Checkpoint (a point that saves your progress).
- 9Ahead, use the swinging ropes to get across the lava pit.
- 10You will then encounter Thwomps (giant stone enemies that slam down). Trigger them, then run or jump across safely as they retract upward.
- 11Reach the giant Thwomp, trigger it from the left, and wait for it to fall, crushing one row of solid blocks below it.
- 12As it retracts, quickly run and drop into the alcove to retrieve Star Coin #3.
- 13With the coin, jump out and run right, then enter the boss room.
- 14Inside, run right to meet Roy Koopa, the first Koopaling.
- 15Roy attacks by charging. If he crashes into a wall, he will be stunned temporarily.
- 16Jump on his head to counter, causing the room to become slightly smaller.
- 17Roy will shoot a magical ball from his wand before charging again. Jump on him again to make the room even smaller.
- 18Do this one more time to win, clearing World 1!
Tips
- Use the Leaf power-up to fly across gaps and reach Star Coin #2 more easily.
- Time your movements carefully to avoid the spiked blocks and rising pillars.
- When facing Roy Koopa, remember that each successful jump on his head shrinks the room, making him easier to hit.
