Mechanics
Explore the intricate mechanics of Resident Evil 9: Requiem, including health systems, detailed crafting recipes for Grace and Leon, and a breakdown of all difficulty levels.
This guide covers the core mechanics of Resident Evil 9: Requiem, detailing health, crafting, and difficulty settings.
Health
Player health is displayed via an ECG trace for Grace and a ¾ circle for Leon. Health is color-coded: green (500 HP or above), amber, and red (below 200 HP). Grace has 800 HP, expandable to 1200 HP with Steroids. Leon starts with 1200 HP.
A 'mercy' mechanic is in play:
- Grace survives lethal attacks with 1 HP if her health wouldn't drop below -300 HP.
- Leon takes half damage from attacks that would otherwise kill him, though he can still die.
Crafting
Combine environmental items to create ammunition, healing items, and more. Specific recipes and requirements vary between Grace and Leon.

Difficulty Levels
Four difficulty levels are available:
Casual
Enemies have reduced health, aggression, and damage. Health regenerates automatically to the caution level. Ammo is more plentiful, Aim Assist is enabled, and fewer enemies appear. Grace has unlimited saves.
Standard (Modern)
The default experience with standard enemy stats. Grace has unlimited saves. Difficulty can be lowered if needed.
Standard (Classic)
Enemies are tougher and more aggressive. Ink Ribbons are required for saving, and autosaves are less frequent. Additional Ink Ribbons can be crafted.
Insanity
Significantly increased enemy health, aggression, speed, and damage. More enemies and earlier elite encounters. Aim Assist is disabled. Ink Ribbons are required for saving. Item locations differ, ammo drops are more frequent for Leon, supply boxes are pricier, and enemies yield more credits. Some items are exclusive to this difficulty. Completing the game in under four hours unlocks the Infinite Ribbon.
Tips
Discover essential tips and strategies for Resident Evil 9: Requiem. Learn about character-specific mechanics, inventory management, crafting, and combat to survive the horrors.
General Tips
- Grace's default viewpoint is first-person, Leon's is third-person. Both can be changed in options.
- When playing as Grace, equip a knife to open containers and slash enemies to save ammo. Use the Hemolytic Injector (R2) when an enemy is stunned to save ammo, but hold L1 to ensure you use the injector and not the knife. L1+R2 can stagger zombies on lower difficulties.
- Knives degrade with use. Recycle worn knives (red state) into scrap via the crafting menu.
- In the Care Center, break large pots for ammo/scrap and small vases for items. Be cautious of noise attracting enemies.
- You don't need to kill every enemy, especially as Grace. Sneak past or stagger enemies by shooting their knees and run.
- After firing, reload your weapon. For Leon, sharpen his hatchet regularly.
- Leon can parry attacks with L1 at the right time. With a pistol, Leon can sidestep and shoot enemies in the back of the head (R2) when they grab. With a two-handed weapon, he'll shove it in their mouth and fire.
- Upgrading Leon's weapons with a Dot Sight forces first-person aiming, changeable in options.
- Grace's S&S M232 is superior. For Leon, the Silencer 9 handgun and 990-TAC shotgun are best. Rifles: Classic 70 for single-shot damage. Any automatic weapon is a good fallback.
- Grace should prioritize crafting Hemolytic Injectors with scrap. On Insanity, craft Empty Bottles. Keep scrap in your Item Box if you lack a knife. Prioritize Stabilizers for Empty Injectors and 12.7x55mm ammo for rare metal. Use blood for Hemolytic Injectors, Molotov Cocktails, and Bottles of Acid. Avoid crafting handgun ammo unless on Insanity. Hemolytic Injectors instakill most enemies. Don't use blood for Med Injectors; combine Green Herbs for heals.
- Steroids increase Grace's health, but Stabilizers (increasing damage) are better as she should avoid combat.
- Ammo is tight for Leon on Casual+. Use stealth kills and buy ammo from supply boxes.
Inventory Management
- Manage inventory by not picking up unnecessary items. Stash healing items if not using them to save space and prevent accidental use. For

- 32Grace will automatically pick up the Emergency Exit Key from the floor.
- 33Grab a poker. Mash R2 to stab the assailant through the eye.
- 34Run up the stairs and use the Emergency Exit Key to open the emergency exit.
- 35After fending off the pursuing police officer, a second assailant will render Grace unconscious.
- Reading all 75 files will unlock a trophy.
