Optional Exploration of the Southern Area:

Explore the southern area in Resident Evil 5 for items like the M3 shotgun and Sapphire (Pear), then learn how to defeat Irving.

Head south and jump down onto the wooden planks. The eastern jetty contains a wooden barrel that usually holds Magnum Bullets, and you can find a Sapphire (Pear) nearby this barrel. The other side has a suitcase with the M3 shotgun inside. The cabin houses Shotgun Shells x10, Machine Gun Ammo x50, a wooden barrel, Handgun Ammo x15, and a First Aid Spray. You can find the last wooden barrel at the very end of the jetty.

With the gate opened, hop back onboard your boat and let Josh sail you off to the next area.

BOSS FIGHT 4: IRVING

Irving has 6 attacks:

• Tentacle Strike: Four tentacles emerge from the sea and strike your characters one by one. This attack can be dodged fairly easily, even when using artillery.
• Tentacle Grab: Squid-like tentacles emerge from the sea and grab one of you, squeezing them badly. The other should try to free their partner ASAP before the tentacle can do a lot of damage. It'll release the character after a short while, but it's still an inconvenience.
• Tentacle Slap: The same squid tentacle tries to hinder the person on the boat by slapping them. Destroy the tentacle before it becomes too much of a nuisance.
• Bite: The colossal creature gets aggravated, swims to the ship and tries to crush your characters between its jaw. This is an instant-death attack, but it can be dodged - fortunately.

Strategy:

Phase 1: The boat is equipped with four guns: The two at the rear are gatling guns and the two on front are grenade launchers. Irving will swim on either side of the boat, and his tentacles will try to crush you when you're controlling one of the guns. Shoot the tentacles one by one and dodge the attacks. Irving will occasionally try to bite you and your partner, but this attack is also dodgeable. When he's swimming in the distance, target the orange bulb right around what you could call his head. Should you get low on health, search the northeast deck for a can of First Aid Spray. This can come in handy even for preventive measures.

Phase 2: Irving will now grab onto the rear and expose himself. Shoot him with full force and dodge both his tentacle and bite attacks. He'll retreat and show up soon after. Repeat the cycle and he'll go down in no time.
