This guide lists the status ailments in Ragnarok Online (RO) and their effects. Note that some ailments may not be fully implemented or working in the game.
Poison
- Indicated By: Purple tint
- Usefulness: 7/10
- Effect: Reduces ATK and DEF of the target.
- Comments: A useful ailment that weakens the target's offensive and defensive capabilities.
Stun
- Indicated By: Stars
- Usefulness: 6/10
- Effect: Prevents enemies from moving or attacking for 3 seconds. After the stun ends, passive enemies become passive again, and aggressive enemies will choose a random target.
- Comments: Can provide a free kill opportunity depending on the monster's strength.
Sleep
- Indicated By: Z's
- Usefulness: 3/10
- Effect: Puts the enemy to sleep until they are hit again.
- Comments: Limited usefulness as enemies wake up upon being hit, primarily useful for quick escapes.
Confuse
- Indicated By: Question mark
- Usefulness: ???
- Effect: Confuses the player or monster.
- Comments: This status ailment is not currently enabled in the game.
Freeze
- Indicated By: Ice surrounding the enemy
- Usefulness: 5/10
- Effect: Encases the enemy in ice until they are hit again. Frozen enemies have a weakness to Wind elemental attacks.
- Comments: Generally useful as sleep, but becomes more effective when paired with Wind damage.
Silence
- Indicated By: X symbol
- Usefulness: 1/10
- Effect: Prevents the target from casting spells.
- Comments: Would be highly effective against Mages in PvP, but is currently useless as magic casting monsters are not yet in the game.
Curse
- Indicated By: Little demon
- Usefulness: ???
- Effect: Reduces stats.
- Comments: Potentially useful against bosses and players in the arena, but the exact stat reduction is not enabled.
Stone
- Indicated By: Target looks rockish
- Usefulness: ???
- Effect: Turns the target to stone. They receive no damage during this time, but upon curing petrification, the target will have only 1 HP.
- Comments: Could be very useful, but stone-based attacks are typically hard to execute in RPGs. While Mages can inflict Stone Curse, enemies do not retain 1 HP upon curing, making it less effective overall.
Dark aka Blink
- Indicated By: ???
- Usefulness: ???
- Effect: Causes the screen to turn black except for the player sprite. For enemies, it limits their vision to 1 square around them.
- Comments: This effect works and is mainly useful for Spear Knights and Archers. The enemy returns to normal state upon being hit, essentially granting a free hit. It can be useful for poor Archers using Familiar cards on their bows.
